The media has long forfeited its role to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. The consolidation of the media into elites - the Gannets, Lees, Murdochs, GEs, Viacoms, Disneys, etc., was only a temporary respite as they caterwaul into oblivion until the re-find their role. They surrendered to be lip service for their moneyed advertisers and the powers that be - thinking there was more money in that than in the nobleness of printing the truth.
