Hey, Hey, Hey, he going to lower airline fees to. I heard “Spirit” airlines is coming here, fees will be low, we just won’t have any pilots to fly the planes.

Also, remember, when Smith was councilor, he was one of the members who concocted the crazy idea of putting up barricades downtown after a certain time of night to stop loopers.

What a maroon. I’d have thought that idea came from some old coot who also wanted a city ordinance to keep those damned kids off his lawn.

  5. Not sure if he is purple, but it was a MORONIC idea. It was the first time I spoke at a council meeting. After watching Tim Kant pound the podium and say “We gotta get rid of these kids!” I decided to speak. I wasn’t opposed to controlling the cruising but I did speak out against some of the silly rules like barricades and said I was concerned about emergency vehicles getting thru, etc. And it was either Smith or Brown who commented that they were trying to pass the ordinance as a ‘package deal’ and I replied, “This isn’t a McDonalds value meal.”

  6. I’ll admit, Smith is intelligent and knows his shit, I will give him that, he will probably be very successful in his job, what worries me and infuriates me is that he quit once already as a public servant. If he couldn’t hack it the first time around, what says he can hack it now? It would be one thing if he finished out his term as a councilor, but he didn’t, and once he was ’embarrassed’ about losing the mayoral election he decided to run with his tail between his legs. I guess I have given up on a lot of things politically, but I was never getting paid by the taxpayers to do those things, I left on my own accord.

  7. Remember the Argus photo of those morons, including Vernon, sitting in an office overlooking the “horrors” of those awful kids?

does anybody know if veron and darrin are tight, and if so, is this a move on heuther’s part to try and kiss and make up with vern?

  10. Barricades? Fuk n a, what are we Beirut?

My guess is Smith and Brown aren’t tight, maybe more like the opposite and Huether is bringing in Smith to poke Brown & Staggers in the eye.

l3wis…I commented on this during a prior discussion. Darrin Smith was asked to step down as a Council Member by his then employer, the American Heart Association. They created an internal personnel policy making elected positions a conflict of interest. He did not “quit”.

The official line when he QUIT was he wanted to spend more time with his family. Sure sounds like a quitter to me.

If and when he ever reads the Walker Parking Study he will realize parking Downtown is a lose lose situation. And what do quitters do when confronted with lose lose? They QUIT.

  14. “Darrin Smith was asked to step down as a Council Member by his then employer, the American Heart Association. ”

I recall this, but I find it hard to swallow that they would ask him to QUIT in the middle of his term, for 2 reasons:

    1) They knew he was on the council when he was hired

    2) What does lobbying for that association have to do with SF municipal law? Nothing.

It was an excuse. And if I have to blog my balls off, I will prove that Smith and Huether are phonies.

Darrin QUIT days after his losing bid for mayor in 2006. Only one in twenty two registered voters in Sioux Falls voted for Darrin, in spite of the fact he had the same political machine backing him as “honest mike” had. Bottom line? He was a sore loser.

Definately. And that is why he should not be working for the taxpayers of Sioux Falls.
