Come to the ‘C’ Street house, you will make a nice sandwich for our hookers.
Largent, Coburn, Wamp, and Doyle were the first to move in, and they were soon joined by Bart Stupak. (Senators Over the years, the roster of residents included Republican  Sam Brownback, John Thune, and Jim DeMint, and Kansas Representative Jerry Moran, as well as John Ensign.) Prospective housemates were usually recruited from the prayer groups. Until the recent scandals, wives of the C Street residents were generally enthusiastic supporters of the living arrangement. “My wife doesn’t live here in Washington, she lives at home, and she loves the fact that I’m surrounded by a group of men that know her,” Coburn says. “She knows that if I start wandering, Marty or Mike Doyle or Bart Stupak or Heath, they’re gonna say, ‘Hey, what’s the deal?’ ”
Soon after the Pickering story broke, an exodus from the C Street house began. John Thune, the Republican from South Dakota, who is said to have Presidential aspirations, was the first to leave, in July of 2009.
This spring, a group of core associates gathered at the Cedars and debated whether the time had come to alter the Fellowship’s rigid policy of secretiveness. Some in the group had long argued for greater transparency and accountability, if for no other reason than to counter the darker conjectures about the movement. By most accounts, this view prevailed, despite Coe’s reservations. Change will almost certainly be minor, and come slowly. A Web site has been designed, and is scheduled to be launched this month.
In the meantime, when Congress is in session the Tuesday-night gatherings continue, still attended by members who no longer live in the house. During the supper accountability session, according to Tom Coburn, “a question that’ll be asked about every four weeks is, Is anybody here having an affair?”
(from Helga) John Thune’s name comes up and it says he lived there.  Now that is the first time someone said he lived in that house and it says he left in 2009. So Thune needs to tell the story of what he was doing there besides it cost $900.00 a month. I thought Thune said he never lived there, but he won’t answer any questions either. Time for him to step forward and explain what he was doing in that house since we know his wife lived/lives in Sioux Falls even when he was in the House and when he was a lobbyist.

11 Thoughts on “Ironic Johnny’s proud membership to the ‘Frat House for Jesus’ (H/T- Helga)

Why is this such a big deal? I don’t really care where Thune lived while he was in Washington… and frankly I don’t care about his personal life either provided he doesn’t break any laws. If another member of that house was involved in some unethical behavior, it doesn’t necessarily reflect upon Thune unless he knew about it or encouraged it.

Frankly $900 a month is probably very reasonable in that area. Do we expect our Senators to rent hotel rooms the entire time they are in DC or something? Thune’s primary residence is in Sioux Falls because he wants his children to be raised in Sioux Falls. Unless I’m missing something I really don’t see how this is significant.

  2. Read the tea leaves bro. Everyone who lived in that house got caught having an affair.

Thats the thing though…. I could care less if Thune had an affair. That is something his wife should care about, but it has no bearing on me whatsoever.

I didn’t care when Clinton did it, I didn’t care when Edwards did it, I didn’t even care when Tiger did it. It just doesn’t have any bearing on how well the person does their job since having an affair isn’t illegal. Unethical and immoral perhaps, but not illegal.

This is a non-story. But $900/month for rent in DC is a pretty sweet deal. I have friends who pay more than that to live in a studio apartment in a good neighborhood.

  5. I’m not saying Thune was having an affair, I’m just saying why would you associate yourself with a bunch of senators and politicians that are?

  6. Affairs, by their nature are typically kept secret, unless your name is Tiger Woods or Jesse James. Do you really think all these guys sit up at night in their jammies eating bon bons talking about who’s the best kisser?

    C’mon L3wis, you’re better than that.

  7. The real issues with C don’t involve the”renters” behavior in their personal affairs. They have to do with seruous campaign finance/tax/lobbyist gifting violations.

The C street residence includes maid service, meals (on-demand room-service style), dry-cleanoing/laundry, and research services in that $900/mo. figure. Comparable housing (single apartments) in that neighborhood are about TRIPLE that $900 rate and DO NOT inlcude the extra services.

The C street owners claimed tax exempt status as a “church building” until the IRS recently rescinded that status. The whole arrangement is being investigated as a tax-fraud/campaign finance crime. It seems that the house’ owners doidn’t report the “price-break” the gave to “renters” as either a campign contribution – or 1099 income to the “renters” and the “renters” didn’t report it as either – either.

There will be more on this coming. Believe me. If it was all above board, why did Thune cut and run ASAP when all this started coming down? Why is he nonresponsive on it now? Has he “lawyered up”? Will he – just like Daschle – eventually proclaim “I didn’t know I was supposed to.” in re: to the tax violations that might ensue?

  8. It is the hypocrisy, when politicians like Ensign, Sanford, Pickering rail against cheating and all the while they are cheating. The C Street House and their other houses, there is more then one house, exist under the guise of religion. But all the Tuesday prayer meetings haven’t really worked, they are still cheating and who knows what else. And we as tax payers get to pay for all of this because they are a church and not taxed.

Thune’s connection with C Street is actually pretty huge.

Do some research re: “The Family”.

One other thing I will mention, it’s not church going like we think. “The meek do not inherit the Earth” in C Street world. It’s rewriting the Word to fit their political agenda.

  11. Jackilope is so right. Coe gets millions of tax free dollars from who knows where and his political connections are considerable. It is hard to figure out exactly what his game plan is but he travels the world pushing his own agenda.
