6 Thoughts on “Colbert; Jesus is a Liberal Democrat

  1. You know, I’ve read the entire Bible through, start to finish, several times, and I’ve read parts of it I don’t know how many times. In all that reading, not once have I ever read anything remotely like God telling us to use the power of government to take property from one person and give it to another. Not a single time.

I have, however, read quite a few statements from God telling people to help people, freely and joyfully. I’ve also read God say several times to be very careful about giving assistance to people who don’t need it, about how that is harmful for the receiver and a discredit to God’s church to render charity irresponsibly.

Of course, you liberals consider your own twisted sense of morality superior to God’s morality, so this kind of irreverent blasphemy isn’t too surprising.

Maybe Mr. Colbert and yourself should spend a little more time in God’s Word, and putting some serious thought into obeying Him, before you promote theft and irresponsibility in His name. In addition to misleading people, you’re bringing discredit on God…and I wouldn’t want to get on His bad side by doing that if I were you.

Bob, you do realize don’t you, that the “church” (Temple, synagaogue, priests, cribes, pharisees, et al) WERE “the government” in the early parts of the bible. And you do realize don’t you, that God commanded the “government” to take ALL of the property an entire nation or two, or three and distribute it among the “nation of Israel”. Don’t you? And finally, you do realize – don’t you – that Jesus commanded that you PAY YOUR TAXES – WITHOUT COMPLAINT – don’t you -really – don’t you? Maybe you “skipped that part”?

  3. I can generally read Bob’s stuff up until he plays his moral superiority card.

  4. Bob? Do you think God has a sense of humor? He says he created us in his image. So he must laugh from time to to time. You should to.

Bob… render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.

I don’t recall Jesus telling Caesar what to do with the taxes he collected, because that really wasn’t the point.

You know what else Jesus never spoke of? Homosexuality… yet that (and the redistribution of wealth) are two of the major platforms of the modern day GOP.

Oh screw it – we all know good little GOP Christians just have one thing in mind and that is how much they can keep for themselves. More, more, more is the credo, and damned be anyone else who tries to reduce (not even eliminate) the impact of greed.

Say what you will about liberals Bob, but I personally have to respect the fact that liberals seem to be ok with giving money away to those who need it and/or could benefit from it even though it cannot possibly have any direct positive impact upon themselves (with the exception of feeling good from giving).

It seems most conservatives (at least those in Washington) are only concerned with keeping as much as possible for themselves… and I just don’t think if Jesus were here today that he would say that is the preferred course of action.

I’m far from a liberal on many if not most key issues, but when it comes to taxes and the division between rich and poor I’d have to say they seem to get it more right than the conservatives. They aren’t perfect, but at least they are pointed in the right direction.

  6. Bob,
I see that you mention in your inane comments…”God say several times to be very careful about giving assistance to people who don’t need it, about how that is harmful for the receiver and a discredit to God’s church to render charity irresponsibly”. When I read this I actually thought you were taking the liberal side of the insane tax policy in this country, where the rich don’t pay their fair share. Oh well, I can always hope you will see the light one day. Good Luck with everything. You need it.
