I’ll admit that as a past Nation magazine subscriber, the magazine tends to lean a bit left, well, a lot left. But I have always felt it was very informative, as this latest letter writer points out;

While absently scanning the June 20 edition of the Nation magazine, I came across a headline, “The problem of Republican idiots.” I thought this could be an interesting read. It was. To quote and paraphrase the article, it stated that half the people who identify themselves as Republican are complete idiots. It further stated that the majority in the party show a “combination of willful ignorance and stubborn stupidity.

Following the reading of the article, I came to the conclusion if you vote GOP in the 2012 election, you too can be labeled a complete idiot. Sorry, that’s a label I don’t wish to have attached to my name.

Willful ignorance?! Get outta here!

7 Thoughts on “Republicans are idiots?

    Well – as an idiot Republican, I would suggest the Dems take a long, hard look before they find fault consistently with the Republican Party. Example – why would a party not run one person against John Thune? Why would you not find some up and comer that wants to start a political life as a public servant instead of letting the man run unopposed and put money in the bank, and better yet, allow him to then raise money for other Rep candidates? I am not totally proud of the Rep party lately, but the constant “it’s someone else’s fault” daily complaint really gets old. It is well-known that MMM wants to be the next big Dem in this state. Good luck with that one.

  2. I am a registered Indy, and plan to remain that way. I will agree the Dems have problems of their own, but they are not ignorant, just chickens.

  3. With the poverty and low wages in this State I don’t understand the stronghold the Republican Party has here. Is it because they don’t vote? How can any sane person think this Republican Party is a friend of middle class America. And yet we continue to vote in Republican after Republican and they continue to try to ram social legislation affecting our personal lives while professing they want less government intrusion in our lives. And then you have the Koch brothers orchestrating the Tea Party and laughing all the way to the bank.

  4. PoliticsUSA reports that 49% of those who claim to be Republican, don’t know what GOP stands for.

    Oh come on now. The Republican bashing is a bit out of control don’t you think? You can’t on one hand ask for more civility in Washington while condoning the words of this letter writer or suggesting that all Republicans are idiots.

    I’m sure if you took a poll of the typical voter where you wrote questions designed to confuse them, you would find that most voters (Republican, Democrat, or anything in between) were idiots. Heck anyone can ask the right question to the right person and make them seem like a moron. Jay Leno does this all the time on his “Jaywalking” segments.

    Is it representative of the population as a whole? Not really. Are all Republicans stupid or idiots or whatever other clever name you wish to attribute to them? No… at least not any more than any Democrat.

    This whole mentality that “the other team” is always wrong while “my team” is always right is comical at best… but in reality it is just plain sad. There are a lof of great and wise Republicans just as there are a lot of great and wise Democrats. The political registration of a person does not somehow influence their intellect.

    Besides – wouldn’t you feel pretty stupid if these “idiots” were still smart enough to control our state for decade after decade and appear to be on their way to control Washington in 2012?

  6. Wouldn’t that be the blind leading the blind?

  7. They all have something good to say—–it’s when they start talking Democrat, Republican, conservative, or liberal that I have a tendency to lose interest. That is when they start sounding like they need psychiatric help.
