On the non-free online local newspaper’s show (4/17), 100 Eyes, managing editor Patrick Lalley suggested that he wanted to come up with a name for Stagger’s hardcore supporters like “Ehrisman and Stehly”. One of the commenters suggested the ‘Legion of Doom’.

So I challenge my readers to come up with a monicker for Stagger’s supporters. And to make this even more interesting an appropriate name for the 100 Eyes show with host Patrick ‘ ______’ Lalley

I don’t think of you as the “Legion of Doom” – more like “The Outsiders”:

I have not watched Patrick Lalley’s show, but I did call him and reminded him that the almost 7,000 people who supported Kermit in the April 10th election represented a wide range of economic and social diversity in our city. He agreed with me. I also told him that many regular , loyal subscribers to his paper, (Argus Leader customers) are Kermit’s supporters and they deserve to be treated with respect by the people in leadership at the Argus. Making fun of citizens who step out , spend time and energy to make our city a better place to be , and partcipate in our political process , lacks journalistic integrity and maturity. We need quality unbiased news sources in our city. Strive for excellence Patrick Lalley!!!

    The Informers

We are educated and therefore informed.
    We inform others.
The govt. and press suck at informing so we have to.

Lalley needs to change the name of his show, because to suggest there are ever 100 eyes on his idiocy is a stretch. I’ve watched it and typically there are never more than 20 – 25 people watching at any point, so if you subtract fellow Argus employees you are probably down to 15 or less.

Assuming none of those 15 are pirates, I’d say 30 eyes is more likely. Plus if you subtract Lalley’s wife and his friends from the bike shop you are probably down to seven. Maybe 14 eyes has a better ring to it.

Either way – the type of biased editorializing that is presented as hard hitting news is one of the reasons I no longer bother to even visit the Argus website. The fact they expect to charge people to see the stories that I can get on one of our three local TV station websites is another.

I used to defend them on a regular basis, but it seems the higher Randall Beck goes, the worse that paper becomes – perhaps due to the fact that Mr. Beck feels he can do no wrong regardless of what the subscription numbers might tell him.

The Argus is a shadow of its former self and instead of having a dozen good reporters on staff, now they have one or two real reporters and a half dozen Jodi Schwans who run around trying to present the warm and fuzzy side of the community. They have six pages of filler for every page of real news in their average paper, and the cost has continued to increase while the content has fallen.

Honestly aside from missing some of the weekly flyers (ads) I don’t miss the paper at all, and I can get most of the flyers by visiting the websites of the stores I shop at.

As to Staggers’ supporters – “Staggers Daggers” has a nice ring to it. Staggers is the tip of the spear, but those who know him and trust him will follow him into battle.

  14. The Argus vs. KELO, round 2 – http://www.argusleader.com/article/20120423/NEWS/120423013/District-scraps-play-by-play-fees-proposed-student-run-livestreams-games?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Home&nclick_check=1

The newly proposed policy restores the status quo for TV and radio broadcasters, who can continue to do games for free. But it means the Argus Leader would have to stop airing Sioux Falls home games online.

DeeAnn Konrad, community relations supervisor for the school district, said she has been pushing for more broadcast opportunities for media arts students since she left a news reporter and anchor job with KELO to work for the schools in 2005.
