I guess this is what they do on their down time in the SOS’s office.

Our 24-year old State Election supervisor Aaron Lorenzen has a public video of himself being tazered and dropping the F-bomb multiple times on his facebook page.

I guess we are not going to see those pictures . . .

I hope someone saves the video. It will be gone by morning…

What an adolescent.

Lederman’s comment was what I was thinking.

Dan Lederman
“How much to be the guy pushing the button?”

#2 rufusx on 07.09.12 at 10:20 pm

It figures Lederman would be a “friend” of that crowd. Also figures he would be the one with the (prayer-in-school bill sponsor) sadistic oriented comments. I am Sooooo happy I will no longer be represented in the state house by that guy.

No class, no class at all.

#4 WOW! on 07.09.12 at 11:34 pm

How did this guy replace Kea Warne? Is he a super genius or something? Is he like on the Big Bang Theory?

What are his qualifications? Kissing Gant’s ass?

#5 mike q on 07.09.12 at 11:38 pm

you have got to be kidding me. I just graduated with my masters in public administration. I busted my ass, saw the birth of two children during that time, and some punk jerk off 24 year old is getting tased in the ass and earning, what, $60,000? What a joke. I know more about the inner workings of government bureaucracy than that jackass could ever hope to. But I haven’t the right letter next to my name; so there goes those hopes. Fuckers.

mike q; this is South Dakota (2nd most corrupt state). Take your skills where they’ll be appreciated and where there’s freedom. Here, you have to be related to a west river rancher or connected through family or marriage to east river Dunham, Hegg, or Lloyd. On the other hand, there’s a slim outside chance for you if you’re Republican.

The environment in the video looks like it was made in a government office. This is some pretty kinky stuff. Who says Republicans don’t know how to have a good time.

Lorenzen make 51,500. I have a degree and worked for the state for 30 years and didn’t come close to making that. He has to know somebody to be making that much.

#10 Observer on 07.10.12 at 9:20 am

I can see a law enforcement agency demonstrating a Taser, but I can’t help but wonder why this done in the SOS office….

#11 Observer on 07.10.12 at 9:22 am

Disregard previous post. I see it was for a training at a sheriff’s office. How nice of him to volunteer.

#12 WOW! on 07.10.12 at 9:52 am

I want to know what this guys qualifications are to run the states elections office. Gant himself is not showing me that he has the ability to run the office.

Then his Chief PP resigns. (I still don’t understand what was so bad that he had to resign)

Now his second in command is 24 and has no experience either?

#13 WOW! on 07.10.12 at 9:55 am

How did the state of SD go from Gant to Chris Nelson and Kea Warne to Aaron Lorenzen?

This guy is a clown and clueless. Unfortunately, I have had to deal with him. He has no idea what he is doing, gives incorrect advice/information and makes fun of Gant. Not sure why Gant keeps him around.

#16 Mr. E on 07.10.12 at 1:02 pm

I was at Northern the same time as Mr. Lorenzen. Trust me, he is no Whiz or boy wonder. I’m still can’t figure out how he landed this job.

#17 Anooner on 07.10.12 at 1:23 pm

Isn’t Don’s chislic date with the Mayor coming up? Hope we get some pictures of that.

#18 l3wis on 07.10.12 at 2:14 pm

“He has no idea what he is doing, gives incorrect advice/information and makes fun of Gant.”

Perfect place for him.

#19 Testor15 on 07.10.12 at 3:05 pm

My understanding his only qualification was GOP worker in
2010.

#20 TA on 07.10.12 at 4:09 pm

I wish I knew more about him. It makes me skeptical of Gant to know we have so little experience in the office.

#21 Packing it on 07.10.12 at 6:04 pm

While I mostly agree with posts on blogosphere about the SOS office, this one is just grasping at straws. This happened over 2 years ago. He wasn’t employed at the SOS and he was actually volunteering for a sheriff’s office training. Most 23 year old’s aren’t volunteering their time. Most of you commenters were probably out doing much worse things at 23. So we swore when getting tased, is that really what this has come to?

I respect opinions, but I have a hard time accepting the opinions on something so irrelevant to the SOS office as this video is. I know for a fact (aka direct knowledge) that Aaron does his job much better and with more integrity than that of Gant and PP. He takes his job seriously and loves what he does. The games that Gant and PP partake in Aaron disagrees with 99% of them.

To be honest, Aaron doesn’t have much of a say when he comes up with an idea. Gant and PP (especially PP) shoot down all recommendations that come into their office from fellow employees. Aaron and the rest of the staff wished none of the new electronic additions (Campaign Finance, Lobbyist, etc) would have gone live until 100% satisfied internally with the system. Gant and PP just wanted to push it and push it even if it’s a garbage system (which it is). Next be on the lookout for the new electronic filing system that business services is pushing. Trust me, it’s a great system once it works, but like the other systems, they will go live way too soon with too many defects.

I hate the fact his name got brought into something that he had no control over. Gant vetoes any and every idea that didn’t originate from PP. Maybe now that PP is gone, things will be for the better. One can hope.

#22 rufusx on 07.10.12 at 8:56 pm

Isn’t he somebody’s son in-law?

#23 Detroit Lewis on 07.10.12 at 10:09 pm

“Gant and PP just wanted to push it and push it even if it’s a garbage system (which it is).”

No shit?! What a cluster. There is certainly something going on here.

#24 WOW! on 07.10.12 at 11:06 pm

The problem with Lorenzen is he has no experience. Not one person in the entire state capitol thinks he is a hard worker who is capable of doing his job. Ask around.

Talk to any county auditor and they will all tell you he doesn’t know what he is doing.

#25 Testor15 on 07.10.12 at 11:10 pm

Packing it tells us what we all already believe is happening. When you are doing system analysis on operating procedures and see so many holes you ahve to wonder what the smartest guys in kindergarten were actually up to or looking for.

#26 l3wis on 07.11.12 at 7:05 am

Packing It – Thanks for clarifying Lorenzen’s position in the SOS’s office. The video is pretty funny though.

#27 Lamb Chislic on 07.11.12 at 12:01 pm

Ruf – I think you’re asking about Tony Venhuizen, Daugaard’s spokesman AND son-in-law (conveniently missing from his bio):
http://sd.gov/governor/bios.aspx?id=venhuizen.

The reason we have corruption like GantGate, as well as years of nepotism throughout state government, is that generations ago we chose to build our state capitol in the middle of nowhere (Pierre). Out of Sight = Out of Mind … for the public and the press.

#28 l3wis on 07.11.12 at 1:23 pm

Oh, but Pat and Jason are not close . . . didn’t you know that?

#29 WOW! on 07.11.12 at 2:00 pm

I love how packin it publicly throws Lorenzen’s loyalty to his boss into question. Obviously if Lorenzen had that much difference of opinion from his boss that he’s publicly disrespectful he would have been fired long ago.

That is why your story is 100% bogus. But I’m sure Lorenzen enjoys that someone with personal information about him trashing his boss is defending him by using that line of tact.

Lorenzen is just one more segment of the Gant saga that disqualifies Gant from serving in his copacity.

#30 anominous on 07.11.12 at 2:57 pm

“Thank you sir, may I have another?”

#31 l3wis on 07.11.12 at 3:24 pm

WOW – I think you can disagree with your boss w/o causing friction in your relationship with them. There is no question Gant has made it a partisan office, just look at all the people he hired. This may catch up to him.

#32 Testor15 on 07.12.12 at 9:57 am

The video is one reason I discourage my friends, family customers from using Facebook. Things done years ago are taken out of context and begin to haunt a person as their lives change.

This event being a stunt, as human guinea pig, a life experience or just fun doesn’t matter. He now sees himself put up for ridicule, at a time when he is trying to establish his work and life credentials.

#33 l3wis on 07.12.12 at 12:14 pm

Wow. No wonder I can only get a job as a waiter :)
