I found this video interesting. It was the annoucement of the Hayward School Clinic that was built in cooperation with the School District, the City and the Feds. But gee, for some reason we can’t cooperate on building a public indoor pool?

I guess the city is already scrambling to find another location for an indoor pool if Spellerberg fails. Here is a suggestion, BUILD THE POOL WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT!

16 Thoughts on “So is there any reason why the city can’t build a Public Indoor pool with the school district?

The more I think about the wasted space at the corner of 10th and Cliff, they really could’ve done a lot more than just the ugly outdoor pool that’s used barely half the year. It’s a centralized location, and there’s plenty of room to make parking lots.

Oh well, we don’t always think logically in this city.

  4. CC – two points,

    1) It is probably a good thing voters approved a outdoor pool at that site, because the aquatics consultant recently said there is too many ground water problems at Nelson park to build an indoor pool.

    2) You can thank the sour grapes of Munson and the Parks board for why the pool is so small. I saw the proposed plans for the outdoor pool, and what they built doesn’t match up with them (wish I would have taken pictures). The pool is about half the size of what is proposed.

    3) The voters made a decision to build an outdoor pool at Nelson Park, like it or not, it is what it is.

Here’s a suggestion: Waterboard the mayor until he realizes there’s no need for an indoor pool. They’re closing Guantanamo so … HURRY

Huron just opened a new 12.5M pool. Yes, Huron. Indoor public pools!

Titleist, and how many other private, fee-based indoor pools are there in Huron? Because there is almost 30 in the metro area of SF.

Sounds like we need an indoor PUBLIC pool.

Huron just opened a 12.5m public OUTDOOR water park which includes a 50 meter 8 lane Olympic-size pool.

Madison has an indoor public pool.
Milbank has an indoor public pool.

There are numerous indoor public pools in the Twin Cities area. How many fee-based private indoor pools are there? Maybe you can have it both ways.

Well, maybe you can have it both ways if you’re an actual grown up adult-type city and not a little baby city.

  13. I laugh and scratch my head.

Voters continue to turn down a public indoor pool.

We have plenty of private facilities to choose from.

The only ones asking for these facilities are swim team participants.

Let’s add this up kids. WE DON’T NEED OR WANT A PUBLIC INDOOR FACILITY!

  14. Maybe we should ask FEMA for the money? Oh that’s right, that money is evil and tainted. I will have to admit, I have ran this blog for a long time, and the discussion over the last month has been totally mother-fucking idiotic, self-serving, ignorant, selfish and downright pathetic. Say what you will about me, don’t care, but seriously, wise up.

Respectfully disagree. Sioux Falls is a vibrant, progressive community. (And I don’t know anyone on a swim team). I would note that we have private golf courses and public golf courses. We have private streets and public streets. We have private medical clinics and public medical clinics. We have private schools and public schools. We have private football fields and public football fields. We have private pools. The citizens want and deserve a PUBLIC INDOOR facility.

  16. It will be good to have the opportunity to see what our community really wants when this goes to a public vote in April 2014.

Swimming pools, snowgates, and zoning ordinances bodes well for a good turnout at the polls.

Thank you to all petition gatherers for their hard work in creating this opportunity for all voters to speak.
