When I first heard about this gun rally coming this Saturday, I said to myself, “Here we go again.”

I guess I am wondering what they are trying to accomplish? If it is already LEGAL to open carry guns in South Dakota, what is the purpose of this demonstration? To show off?

I support 2nd Amendment rights, but I also support being logical, reasonable and diplomatic. Just because you CAN carry a weapon in public, does that mean you have to? Seriously?

Gun rights advocates planning a walk this weekend in Sioux Falls might have some unarmed company.
Sioux Falls resident and Mitchell pastor Kristi McLaughlin says she’s organizing an alternative demonstration.
Members of the South Dakota Open Carry Sioux Falls Chapter plan a Saturday evening walk in which participants will have guns holstered on hips or slung over shoulders. Organizers say the goal is to raise awareness of gun rights laws and help residents feel at ease when they see someone carrying a gun. It’s legal in most places in South Dakota as long as the gun isn’t concealed.
McLaughlin says she doesn’t want to attack the constitutional right to bear arms, but she questions whether society should be comfortable with people carrying guns in the streets.

Why not teach the public about how not to be paranoid that everyone is out to kill, maim or steal from you. If these demonstrators are so fearful of their fellow American citizens that they have to carry guns everywhere they go, may I suggest they just stay home, it would be much safer then standing on a busy street.

  1. You mean it was never meant to be an extension of my penis?

So you are saying… If our Founding Fathers could only have had access to a Snapchat app then perhaps the 2nd Amendment would have never been necessary?…. at least for some….

I wonder what Anthony Weiner’s position is on the 2nd? I think he has already demonstrated his 1st Amendment position…. or pose…..

In the current political environment, I believe the only right worth having is one that can be exercised as belligerently as possible.

My opinion of people having to carry a gun wherever they go, is that the reason they do so, is they think it makes them look more macho, and this goes for women too.

  5. oh here it comes! They have to carry a gun because they have a ” small penis” or ” need to feel Macho” , ” or being extremists”. Have any of you talked to them? This cerrtainly breaks up the the blogging of the mayor and the pavillion.

  6. xd – I had a great convo with someone about this last night. I still don’t understand the ‘demonstration’.

  7. Poly43 on July 27, 2013 at 9:45 am said:

XD. Many of you OC activists have appointed yourselves as representatives of all gun owners. Let me assure you. You are not. In fact, IMHO, you do more harm than good in the eyes of a bird and game gun owner.

There was a time when I believed killing wildlife with a gun was sport. It was the only time I ever OC’d as a civilian. Having the desire, or perceived need, or even the RIGHT to open carry does not mean you should. There’s no law against carrying a gun openly for the same reason as there’s no law against pissing into the wind.

  8. “There’s no law against carrying a gun openly”

Exactly! That is why this ‘demonstration’ is pointless.

  9. I advertise that I’m taking my gun to a parade on Minnesota Avenue, thus announcing publicly that I’m leaving my home undefended. I’d consider that a tactical error… if I assumed that I lived in the Hobbesian state of nature and needed to maintain armed watch over my property at all times without the protection of a community governed by a rational social contract.

  10. Oh Cory, stop being Snarkingly Logical.

  11. What does “you have a right to do it but you shouldn’t do it” even mean?
Poly- There is a law against pissing in the wind it its called “public exposure”

  12. Poly43 on July 27, 2013 at 5:25 pm said:

Shake and bake it any way you like XD. OC is something that very few people would ever consider doing. Out of a SF MSA of about 250,000 how many we’re out playing Hans solo saving the universe from the dreaded Death Star?

OC advocates are trying to make the open carry of firearms into a “social norm.” That day will never come. I see you guys in public and I’m giving you a real wide berth. I would not exactly call that a social norm.

  13. xdsteel on July 27, 2013 at 6:36 pm said:

‘ OC is something that very few people would ever consider doing. “And you know this because you asked a whole five people that you know? What we are doing isn’t wrong and we are not being righteous or anything. We are simply exerting our rights. If people get offended so what. We are not hurting a thing.

You’re right xd – public jackassedness is a perfectly fine pastime. Let’s everyone see clearly who you are.

My question is – why do you need to travel in a pack and advertise your intentions. Why don’t you just do it every day – all day long? THAT would be ACTUAL “social normalization” of hill-billiness. Yooze guys approach is something else entirely – grandstanding – showing off.

Having Lora Hubbel on KELO as the gun owners self-proclaimed spokesperson was priceless(!!!)…. They don’t know it, but they are already losing the ground game without a single bullet fired…..

  16. Winston, still trying to catch my breath. I thought the same thing when I saw her. Soooooooooooo Funny.

And btw, the pistol holder is one thing, Asphalt rifles and baby strollers? WOW!

  17. xdsteel on July 28, 2013 at 5:01 pm said:

DL-I guess I do not really get your reference to Lora Hubbel. I am also going to speculate that you meant Assault rifles instead of Asphalt rifle (stupid spell check). Well there is no such thing as “assault rifles” so I am not even going to go into that… By the way it wasn’t about guns, it is about freedom..

Rufusx- We do OC everyday you are just too ignorant to see it.

  18. Winston on July 28, 2013 at 5:57 pm said:

Actually they are “Asphalt rifle(s)”, because they make an “As(s)” of our society, it’s all of our “phalt(s)” that they exist, and the eventual victims usually end up on the “Asphalt” road….. A road that the gun activists are leading us all down…..

As far as “freedom,” tell the parents of 26 dead children in Connecticut that their kids are now free….

If “OC” is being done everyday and some are too ignorant to see it, then where do you draw the line? How far are you willing to go to make your point?

  19. Poly43 on July 28, 2013 at 6:04 pm said:

Yeah…freedom to stroll down Minnesota avenue, with a baby stroller, and a semi automatic with a 30 round clip. Classy. Why do you folks feel the need for weapons that can empty a 30 round clip in 6 seconds or less? Back when I thought pheasant hunting was “sport” I used a over under. Two shots. And if you can’t do it with two shots maybe you shouldn’t be carrying.

  20. xdsteel on July 28, 2013 at 6:26 pm said:

Winston- your play on words suck. Also I feel bad about what happened, but the OC had nothing to do with that so I don’t see the relevance here.

Poly- Who are you the “classy police”?
“Why do you folks feel the need for weapons that can empty a 30 round clip in 6 seconds or less?” because I might need it. Why do I need to justify it to you? You keep going back to your “hunting” theme so I am going to put it like this: The second amendment has nothing to do with hunting.

  21. Winston on July 28, 2013 at 6:48 pm said:

Xdsteel, it doesn’t “suck” rather it hurts because it is the truth…. As far as the OC, it promotes the gun culture and all the costs which come with it….

Ah….the gun culture. Perfect time eh l3wis?

After watching the aforementioned video, I have to admit, maybe the Second Amendment does complement our First Amendment rights…..

  24. I support gun owners and gun rights After seeing the news segment on Kelo land of these folks walking, they may have well been carrying a swastika. Very poorly done right to carry crowd. Maybe next time someone can tote a grenade launcher, to really class it up.

South Dakota law is on your side gun fans, keep up this parade of morons and you’ll f-ck it up for all of us.

  25. Winston on July 29, 2013 at 12:13 am said:

Perhaps all of this will spur the creation of a chain of
Guns & StrollersRUs stores throughout the land. They could be known for their camouflage disposal diapers and strollers with a built-in gun holster, and maybe the Papa John’s founder or the Hobby Lobby Store owners could fund it…… OH, I forgot, how about the Koch brothers instead…..

  26. rufusx on July 29, 2013 at 9:20 am said:

You’re right again xd – the 2nd amendment doesn’t have anything to do with hunting. It doesn’t have anything to do with self-defense either. What it does have to do with is national defense. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State….” Do you guys belong to a well-regulated, militia?

  27. “I advertise that I’m taking my gun to a parade on Minnesota Avenue, thus announcing publicly that I’m leaving my home undefended.”

I always say it’s a good night to rob the trailer parks when there is pro wrestling or a monster truck rally at the Arena.

  28. I think it would have been cool if they had an M-60 mounted to the baby stroller.

  29. Winston on July 29, 2013 at 10:59 am said:

How about a James Bond style baby stroller with more than just fire power, it should also be able to emit gases and perhaps a knife could eject from it to slice the tires of other menacing strollers….

  30. The Hatfield’s and McCoy’s never had it so good – BANG! BANG!

Well, you know we have advance some since those good old days…. I think?

  32. XD, never argue with an idiot as they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. With that said, next time one of you responders above are faced with a bad situation involving a gun that could be handled with a gun…let me know how you feel (pee and poop in a grown ups pants probably don’t feel too good). We are so pro 1st amendment on this site yet we like to shit on the second because we (not me) are so “peace to all freaks, that shit doesn’t happen here”. When Chicago hits SF, you’ll pray for the 2nd amendment keepers. I know all posters above haven’t seen nasty things from the crowd because this is small town SF, but it’s coming. Best choice for those posters is to quickly bend over, pray to “your god” and kiss your ass good bye. Hopefully your relatives won’t have to smell the load in your pants when they ID the body.
