I wanted to post about the mayor’s lake home because it is a question I get quite often. There seems to be some confusion on how he attained the property, and as far as I can tell, has the only lake front property (there is a farm on the other side of the lake adjacent to it).

Okay, I can’t see that the mayor attained the property in any sort of nefarious way, this from the SD GFP;

Ownership of Lake and Adjacent Lakeshore Properties
Diamond Lake is listed as meandered public water in the State of South Dakota Listing of Meandered Lakes. Game, Fish, and Parks (GFP) owns the majority of the lake basin as a Game Production Area and manages the fishery. The remainder of the shoreline is privately owned.
As you can see from the Google map images (2012) a special road had to be built to the home. I know many people who fish on that lake, and have witnessed the mayor having ‘get togethers’ at it.
While I commend anybody who is successful to build lake homes, it befuddles me that he would want to have the only home on the lake and when does he find time to stay at it? (it is located in Minnehaha county in rural Colton).
So just for the record, as far as I can tell, it’s his place, free and clear. Just trying to dispel any rumors.

13 Thoughts on “Mayor Huether’s Diamond Lake home

Diamond Lake might have the potential to put a Governor’s Valhalla to shame.

I imagine there’s a hellish mosquito problem what with all the slough land surrounding the little semi-island the house sits on.

Kind of ironic for a guy who promotes neighbors tattling on each other as a civic virtue to build a house where nobody else lives…

  4. Well I’ll be damned. I didn’t know he owns that property

I ice fished Diamond several times a couple years ago. Green and stinks like hell. Very poor fishing reports in the last few years as the water condition gets greener.

Who the hell builds a new house on a slough. It’s accessed at $230,000. https://www.minnehahacounty.org/PropertyTaxPayment/PropertyTax_PropertyDetails.cfm?PID=83603

I’d be interested in who was the contractor that built it. He still owns a large house on Saints Hill correct? Could this be what TIF’s gets you?

  5. HG, BAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I thought the same f’ing thing!

Did fished from boat few times at Diamond Lake, whenever I drift past the house I always wondered who and why the hell built a house there. You just answered my question.

No wonder I never got any bites near that house. 🙂

  7. Yeah, I heard the fishing on the lake is a little ‘subprime’ at best 🙂

“Amenities” forthcoming along the shoreline ?

This is so creepy. Find something better to do with your time, please.

  11. I would agree that it is pretty creepy of Google taking photo’s with government owned satellites of our houses. You can even see my hot tub in the one of my property, I was kinda upset they didn’t take the photo when I was sitting in the tub.

BTW, did you not read my post? I was defending Mike’s right to own property on the lake, I was dispelling any rumors.

  12. Here is what I learned from this post…

    1. The Mayor and his wife owns two homes one of which is on a small lake that people like to fish on.

    2. Nobody can understand why anyone would enjoy a nice view and the peace and quiet of the countryside.

    3. The Mayor has no interest in worrying that his property taxes might be late so instead he pays his full year property taxes in January just because he can. Good for him.

    4. Some people, myself included, have too much free time.

  13. So who built the house for you Carlos? Do you take Craig there for weekend getaways?

I never really gave a shit about mayor Munson. But then again he didn’t give out sweetheart tax cuts to his buddies and he and his wife weren’t “silent partners” in land deals.
