1) Agenda for the Public Services Committee, 2) Pavilion Engineering Expense, 3) Ice & Tennis contracts

1) Looks like the city council is back to square one on the taxi cab ordinance. They are now reverting back to a work session to discuss further changes. The first thing that needs to go is the 24-hr requirement and they need to actively explore a central dispatch program. I have trouble believing the state department of revenue is hampering this program.

2) The Cinedome’s roof is only about 14 years old, (consent agenda) and already needs replacement? After spending millions on the Pavilion and Cinedome we can’t even build a roof that will last more then 14 years? Maybe the Kirby Family and Wells Fargo can donate some more money to get it fixed?

3) The council will be voting on the Ice & Tennis contracts (items 9 & 10). But they are not being presented as resolutions or ordinances, just contracts. I wonder if public input will be allowed?

Larry Toll appeared before the Council just four short months ago during the annual budget hearings. NEVER did he mention anything about the Cinedome needing a new roof!!

This is a capital improvement. A new roof for the Cinedome is NOT listed anywhere in the 2014-2018 CIP.

What Mr. Toll did request is the following

and, MORE IMPORTANTLY, what is in the 2014-2018 CIP is the following:

Building sprinklers/life safety improvements, rain water redistribution system, MWS hall seats, electrical,
lighting, HVAC upgrades, and cafe addition

    Total Project Cost: $2.6m

Installation of escalators on north and south floor pockets

    Total Project Cost: $320,000

    Generator upgrade

    Total Project Cost: $500,000

    Refurbish Cinedome Seats

    Total Project Cost: $86,000

Obviously, they must continually monitor the condition of both the pavilion and the cinedome.

Why was the Cinedome roof NOT discussed with the Council during the budget process?!!!!

  2. Hold your jets. I want to hear just how much this is going to be. Is this minor repairs? Or an entire new roof? Hopefully, councilor Staggers will ask the question. But I am thinking, if you have to pay an engineer $9,000 to do a review of the roof, they ain’t blackjacking holes. I think while they are up there fixing the roof, they should make it look like a gigantic burn barrel with smoke coming out.

Why do we need an Events and Convention Center when it seems all sports is being directed to the Sanford Sports Complex? Next on the agenda will be tear down the convention center so there’s parking for the EC. Typical city thinking; Ready, Fire, Aim.

The finance figures are fiction that may never expose the debt from our dictator megalomaniac mayor. Eventually, we must live in suburb cities because infrastructure collapsed or taxes became to high. Instead of Christmas, ‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Detroit’. City employees will suffer most when they lose their cushy retirements.

  5. Just watched the Council Meeting and the discussion about the Cinedome roof. Guess it is leaking, and the roof was only supposed to last 10 years.

WTF? What Century are we living in? We can only have a domed roof last 10 years?

Also, Entenman admitted he was notified in early November about this issue, but did not share it with the rest of the council.

    WTF?

Looks like time to close the Sinning Dome. Next, board up the Pavilion. There’s no interest or profit. Time to go. Then the city can focus on building luxury hotels near the EC & Airport.
