I wonder if they will be serving FREE Papa John’s pizza at the EC tours? Rex and Tracy need to share.

Here is the latest ‘veiled’ tax payer funded campaign promotion by Mayor Huether;

The city says they are excited to let the public get a sneak peek at how it looks.

There is no need to sign up because you get to look around all by yourself.

Once you are inside, you can really get the feel for how big it is.

It’s over 300,000 square feet, 105 feet tall and four levels.

You can come and see for yourself starting this Saturday evening from 6 to 8 and Sunday from 1 to 4.

That goes every weekend through the end of March.

They are just starting to put the seats in which will take until the end of June.

“Now, we’re just to a point where we can actually corridor off a safe area for people to come in. This is really the city of Sioux Falls’ building. It’s the people’s building and we want them to have a chance to come in. It’s too cold to do anything else, so we would rather people come on out to the convention center, walk in, take a look and see what the results are.” said Mark Cotter, Director of Public Works.

When you come in to see it, there won’t be any construction going on.

So you won’t have to wear any safety gear.

Through the end of March . . . how convenient, only days away from the municipal election. While many local ‘dignitaries’ got to take early tours of the Pavilion when it was being constructed, the public certainly wasn’t let in to see, of course, there probably wasn’t a city election going on either. Slick move Mike.

Cotter’s comment was pretty ironic. I have often said that since taxpayer’s are borrowing for the lion’s share of this project (and probably subsidizing it) that the EC should have been called ‘Sioux Falls CITIZEN’s Arena’

  2. I bet you a Turner county fair chislic basket that SMG will announce the opening act and a calendar of events slated for the new EC right before the municipal election.

I will give Huether credit on one front, he has figured out how to use city resources to campaign for his re-election. It’s too bad our ethics board are lapdogs for the administration, because this practice has ‘Unethical’ written all over it.

I see the new guy from SMG in charge of entertainment comes from Fargo and the Ralph Engelstad Arena. Go to their site . Look at what is in store for us. The Ralph has a sure fire first rate tenant in ND hockey. Other than that for the last year, who have they had for entertainment? How about for the foreseeable future? That’s right. NOBODY.

So, we got d league caliber football and hockey as major tenants, and don’t forget the mighty summit league.

Subsidy written all over it. Be proud papa john. Very proud.

  4. Thanks, Poly, for exposing one of the big myths of the EC debate. Fargo has NOT had the best of luck with shows. And they have almost a REAL college there! Some things have worked, but the Springsteen show on his reunion tour was the lowest grossing concert of the tour. The Stones didn’t sell out. Weezer played in front of almost nobody. Look for a couple of splashy shows, but after a year it will return to the same country and geriatric 70’s bands playing to the same 5,000 people.

  5. I though rex was going to run one term, must like sup prime mike.

  6. Councilor Rolfing’s voting record clearly shows he is one of the Mayor’s rubber stamps.

  7. I think Rolfing is doing this to block Manny and Emmett and will probably resign in a year if re-elected. I ‘heard’ he is retired and already has a home in Florida, where his wife resides. Not sure if that is true, but if it is the case, Emmett needs to bring up this in the race.
