There is a hearing scheduled for Monday, August 18 (I believe) at the Minnehaha courthouse concerning the ballot language over the rezoning of the proposed Walmart land. The SON neighborhood contends that the language was misleading and that the vote be withdrawn and have a new election.

This should be interesting, because if the city loses they only have a week to request the issue be placed on the November ballot.

Of course, even if the city wins, there will be appeals. Don’t expect to see a NEW Walmart on the southeast part of town anytime soon.

8 Thoughts on “Hearing over municipal ballot language

All walmart had to do was drop down south a quarter mile and be in the game with great access. Sitting at minn&85 will challenge the most stout shopper into going somewhere else with the goofy
limited access. I have to wonder what did mmm promise these chuckle heads from ak

  2. Hmm. I guess the SON group is living up to all the things they were accused of being before the election. Time to move on folks.

A vote was taken, you lost. Now you’re wasting our taxes fighting your ballot box loss, pathetic.

It’s becoming clear we are going to need a Double Jeopardy in our elections. Tea shouldn’t be dragging voters in every 2 months for a new school vote and SON/Spellberg shouldn’t be able to drag us through this BS.

I voted against both the indoor pool and the south Walmart, but the actions of both these groups is becoming appalling. If you bring either of these issues back to the ballot, expect to be embarrassed. Your margin of loss will be greater.

Ballot language is more than confusing, it’s directive. The pool vote was worst. I read it as ‘fix Spellerburg or build an indoor pool’? What if I wanted neither? What if I wanted an indoor pool but not at Spellerburg?

Defending SON. That ballot language was clearly slanted toward the city govt’s desired outcome. As much as everyone likes to complain about the hazards of 41st/Louise, that would pale in comparison to the mess of an intersection 85th/Minn would become. The lack of access and status of those streets invites disaster. Yes, I am a member of SON. We know what is best for this neighborhood, but we are also aware of the negative effect this will have on anyone driving into the area. I only wish Spellerberg would do the same.

Of course, we must remember that we have a city clerk who can’t catch typos or keep track of versions of a document. Also, from the sound of the problems with the Pav and EC, we don’t have competent engineers on staff to deal with those problems. I make a living as a consultant and usually I am hired because the client’s employees are incompetent or too lazy to figure it out. So, tell me why the city needs consultants all the time.

    Dan, I agree,
it was meant to be directive build a Walmart or get nothing just a corn field, Build an indoor pool or FIX (not replace) Spellerburg.

Why do these people seem to need to distort, alter, the real facts, I guess that is called lying. They are so good at it, they must be so insecure to lose to the big money guys that there is little to no ethics left in City Hall. Do you think Erickson and Kiley will show some grit and challenge the conduct of the mayor an council? oh yeah NOT I still wonder how the city clerk and Fiddle Faddle got these alterations to the ballot language onto the ballots. I guess they sit at high places, or think they do. Lets hope next election brings some changes.

I sat in a neighborhood meeting with Christine, Oh I’m different, I’m not for city bullying, I have a different vision. I guess that dissipated like passing gas. Kiley we all knew what he was about.
Tonight driving home and going to costco, costco lots of money to them, none for walmart LOL, but the streets are at failure rate at 3:30pm 41st and Minn was a disaster zone, 57th and minn, maxed out. How the hell are they going to run a regional hub at 85th and minn. What a crock. Jeff Schmitt and Mike Cooper, thanks for changing the rules on all( Schmitt keeps saying on the preplanning meetings that RS single family has to be protected, but he won’t state that for the Twin Eagles area), your planning is going to be disasterous

FYI, plans are in for south side Walmart store. Building permit could be issued in the next month.
