Follow me to the Pentagon, who doesn’t like to watch a good ol’ cock fight?

Of course when Kelby and Sanford are involved, nothing should surprise us;

One of the most popular, and most controversial of extreme sports, could been finding a home in Sioux Falls. Next week, members of the South Dakota Athletic Commission will decide whether to allow ultimate fighters to enter the ring at the Sanford Pentagon.

The Resurrection Fighting Alliance wants to hold bouts at the Sanford Pentagon on August 22. Supporters see ultimate fighting as a financial boon to Sioux Falls, drawing big crowds of fans. But critics think ultimate fighting is too violent of a sport and shouldn’t be embraced here.

I won’t get into my feelings on people calling something a ‘sport’ while they are beating the shit out of each other, but am I the only one that thinks this probably won’t be helping Sanford’s image? You are a healthcare institute. I don’t have an issue with promoting Sports Medicine, basketball can be a grueling sport on an athlete’s body. But is ultimate fighting really a sport that Sanford wants to promote their Sports Medicine division? Apparently so.

Who makes these bonehead decisions anyway?

    I would say playing football is more dangerous then ultimate fighting. Look into the stats on head injuries and life altering injuries and you will see football is a hell of a lot higher than mix martial arts or ultimate fighting. I ask you what exactly do you have against ultimate fighting? It is an art and talent a lot more then just some guys bashing their faces in.

    Mixed martial arts fans are out to see blood. That’s exactly what they’ll see with this so called sport. Win win for krakenhoft. A pentagon full of blood thirsty drunks, and a sanford copter out back medivac-ing the spoils of combat to the latest and greatest in medical technology.

    Meh, simply a way to expand the Sanford Sports brand (and cash flow) beyond the traditional SF white-bread sports pursuits (football, soccer, basketball, hockey, and tennis).

    Apparently, there might be a limit to the amount of money which can be generated by shucking $10/day admission fees from the wallets of the youth basketball enthusiasts during the endless series of youth basketball tournaments.

    Who will be the exclusive promoter for professional wrestling at the Pentagon ?
    Vince McMahon ? Or Verne Gagne ?

    This place needs to take its rightful place as the port of entry to the Sioux Falls Sports and Entertainment District.

    There’s a Sanford Pentagon & Sanford Events Center. The Sanford Obama Care will profit from cage fighting. How bout a Sanford White House?

    It’s not about the ACA, this is about Sanford cashing in on insurance claims by the fighters.

  10. “The study conducted by Prof. Hutchison and doctors at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto did not involve actual medical diagnosis of MMA fighters.”

    Love how you obviously did not read that they did no real study, they went off of their assumption that being knocked down = traumatic brain injury. Yet they put in that boxing has a lower count… hello it is called “Pugilistic Dementia” because boxers get “TKO’ed” multiple times in a fight and are given time to gather their wits and then get back up to get hit in the face further. A half-ass study by a Canadian college that wanted to obviously say that MMA should be banned is ridiculous.

    As for it going into Sanford’s pocket, it should also be noted that many of the top level UFC fighters have been training at the Sanford Powerhouse for the last few years, so it has a certain draw for that sport.

    Personal feelings aside, unless someone does a comprehensive medical study, not a study based on complete assumptions, it is really premature to say it is more dangerous than sports like Boxing, Football, hell even Soccer, which have multiple documented problems with concussions.
