Like when our SWAT team blew out the windows of an apartment building to catch an unarmed fugitive, or when they put over 40 bullet holes in houses trying to coax a mentally ill-sucidal veteran from his home. But my favorite was when over 20 of them (My count from an Argus Leader photo) showed up to be Looky-Loos at a murder/suicide scene. I thought to myself, “Isn’t that many officers at a crime scene like that give more of a risk to contaminating the site?” The other part that surprised me, besides the fact that it seems they don’t have a lot to do as patrol officers is that when Chief Barthel was asked during the budget hearing how many officers are on patrol at any given time, he said between 20-40. I thought to myself, “If half to all of our patrol officers are at one scene, where the suspect and victim are clearly dead, who is patrolling the rest of the city.?”

6 Thoughts on “Does this remind you of something?

I was waiting for a Ferguson MO post. It’s not like there here. It’s worse.
One cop there unloaded his pistol on an unarmed teen (6 shots, 6 hits). 3 SF police fired 20 shots into a quiet neighborhood, no hits. Only 17 shots were fired at Kent State by a whole platoon of National Guard.
It’s time to ‘Demilitarize’ police everywhere, especially here. Crisp blue uniforms with a bill cap and shined shoes. No more camo with combat leather garters and visor steel helmets. No tanks on these streets and (especially) in mayors’ parades.
There’s no internal affairs at SF police and there’s no formal complaint process against a city employee. Pre-Huether, there was both. You forgot to mention the 2 cops who made an unsubstantiated ethics complaint against Staggers such that he lost the mayors election and had to hire council to clear himself.
When Ferguson happens here, it could be a way for citizens to take control of their city with a new charter and democracy. In Ferguson, there are elements handing out an arsenal. If that happens here, it’s gonna be a civil war but it may be the only way to deactivate the tanks. Peace terms would be city police skipping down Phillips in jail jumpsuits handing out daisies.

  4. I was listening to a Twin Cities radio station today. They reported that the Minneapolis PD and the military were conducting joint helicopter training missions overnight along the river this week .
A person called in and said he is a police officer in Royalton MN and his department had just acquired a military surplus rocket launcher….. WTF!!!!!!

  5. I think a demonstration in Sioux Falls for the acts in Ferguson is pathetic. You need help.

  6. DD…you are sorely misinformed. Not that you should let facts get in the way of an agenda. What fun would that be?
