Oh the irony of the Argus, in the midst of ‘restructuring’ (which is code for laying people off) screwing their employees out of vacation pay, and consistently dropping subscription numbers (you should see their distribution audit) they recommend voting against a minimum wage increase. Good, nothing like the kiss of death. If I was Weiland I would bed them to endorse Rounds.

If it wasn’t so sad, it would be funny.

7 Thoughts on “Argus ED Board endorses a ‘NO’ vote on IM 18

  1. by being against the minimum wage hike, maybe the argus is hoping minimum wage paying business owners will advertise with them.

Minimum wage increases are always touted as a way to help the low income earners. However after all these increases we still have low income earners? Why is that? To best help the low income earner, we really should be focusing on the earned income credit as that has proven to be more effective helping the poor. Minimum wage increases in effect only serve to boost middle and upper income families total incomes by paying their children more for part time work. Vote no.

The issue with Don C’s argument is that it posits minimum wage vs. EITC as a false dichotomy. It’s not an either/or situation.

The issue with EITC is that while it grants government the ability to target the benefit, it shields the low-wage employer from the cost of the support by distributing it over the entire population. Taking that approach alone lets low-wage employers off the hook for issues that result from them paying workers a wage at which government supports are required for them to support themselves.

Both the EITC and minimum wage can be effective tools in addressing issues of income inequality.

Argus who? They’re on the way out and their opinion counts for nothing. I’ve noticed there’s no longer newspaper machines at coffee shops.

If pot becomes legal, the Argus building is a good warehouse & indoor grow. Then, they’ll sell papers.

  7. I support raising the minimum wage. Those few extra dollars in a worker’s paycheck will go back into the economy, for whatever the minimum wage might be, there will never be enough money for a peasant to open up a savings account. But, with a bit of a raise, a worker might be able buy his kid Cheerios instead of Brand X.
