Jeff Barth told me this morning that he plans to run for the party chairmanship. The party elects new officers in Chamberlain on December 11-12.

10 Thoughts on “Breaking; Jeff Barth to run for SD Democratic party chair

Jeff would provide the leadership the SDDP needs to help it climb out of the deep hole the its current leadership finds itself in. He will get the support of working Democrats. Now if the “wine and cheese” crowd can just learn to follow a mainstream Democrat rather than seek out the nearest ideological cliff to jump off of, Democrats might win an election or two.

I’m not quite sure what “hole” you are talking about…financial? If you look at the SDDP financial records, they are in the best financial shape they have been in in years. Candidate recruitment? Yeah…that sucked this year, but I think some if not quite a bit of blame can and should be placed on the county parties for that. Press? I think over the last 4 years the press has covered more SDDP press releases and events than they have in the past. If it weren’t for the SDDP, no one would be talking about EB-5 like they have been. Mr. Crago has been pushing this issue for over a year. I like Mr. Barth, but I have grave concerns about his potential taking over of the party. As chair of the largest county in the state, what has he done to not only build the Minnehaha County Dems but contribute to the success and growth of the State Party? How much money did the Minnehaha Dems raise for local candidates? How many candidates did the county party actually recruit? How many people under the age of 40 has Mr. Barth and his leadership team recruited to volunteer and be active with the party? I have concerns about electing an individual who can’t keep his own county party from imploding to lead our state party. I also find your term “wine and cheese” crowd very offensive, as it is meant to divide the members of our party, which isn’t terribly helpful.

  4. judy judy – If you think making wine – or cheese – isn’t “working”….. I’ve got some vines and a cow you can have. Then after 4-5 years you can come back with a report on how magically simple and sweat free it is to make wine and cheese.

Gee ” concerned democrat” you sound like a member of the ” wine and cheese” crowd. Either that or a Zack Crago impersonator. Blaming others for the dismal results of a show Crago and Company insisted on running themselves is what we would expect from you and/or him.

Barth wins elections in off-Presidential cycles. When other D’s up and down the ballot get hammered, Barth wins. He wins on his own terms – not on the coat tails of the Statewides. As a Commissioner, he goes after his R colleagues when he thinks they are wrong and is gracious enough to congratulate them when things go well. He doesn’t apologize for being a D or triangulate to curry favor. He risked being out front on marriage equality. He risked taking on Rounds to protect the record on EB 5. Tell me – who is doing a better job as an elected official or county officer at promoting the agenda and ideals of the SDDP?

Heads-up, the meeting is Dec. 12th and 13th and not 11th and 12th.

  10. Democrats like wine and cheese; the Republicans like hot dogs and beer. That’s why I’m a Dem.
