Meet the Thune Monarchy

I have often balked at the notion that a politician is just that, a servant to the people. But somehow our media has to make them into a monarchy.

Trust me, I could could go on and on about Mr. Do Nothing Obstructionist Ironic Johnny, but he has done so little lately, except climb the leadership ladder, that I am in a loss for words.

So, our Senior Senator figured out reproduction, and now we should do a story about it.

Gripping, investigative reporting. Purely Gripping.

12 Thoughts on “Why does the local media treat politicians like royalty?

  1. I also enjoyed the fact that Mr. SD Prairie Values daughters were too good to go to SD colleges.

Well at least we have an idea of how they plan to fill the huge void left by Montgomery’s departure. That Bald’n’Surly is one deep, deep journalist
Can’t wait to see the Rounds and Noem puff pieces.

  3. Such a lovely little story. And Dorene Weinstein must be on a first name basis with “John ” because Dorene calls Thune by his first name several times in the piece.

Sadly, South Dakota politics has become a game of glamour over substance.

The day our South Dakota Democratic leaders begin to understand this, and find a plausible balance between the two, will be the day we as Democrats and concerned South Dakotans will be relevant once again.

  5. I will have to agree with most of the comments made about this. I do like Thune and this AL bullshit piece does make me want to puke.

The whole damn political process is bullshit over substance. I think we should give Lewis Black’s plan a try. http://def44.wordpress.com/2010/04/23/lewis-black-on-picking-a-new-president-applies-to-new-pm/

One other note on argus fluff pieces. Looks like stu whitney has earned his stripes and moving away from the sports scene to polishing turds for the banking industry and for “huge” profit hospitals.

He was relatively harmless as sports writer. God help us all in his new position.

More bad news. David Montgomery is leaving the argus.

  8. Stu Whitney was kept even after his hate filled rant about Make a Wish HHN event. What a company!!

Most kids should leave for adjoining state universities. There’s full reciprocity and SD students pay the same as adjoining state residents. AP college credits from SD high schools are not universally accepted at SD colleges while adjoining states accept all credits. There’s more financial aid and housing assistance not afforded in SD. Other reasons? Let’s hear it.

  10. Remember when Thune said he could do more for S.D.This guy is a joke, Please run for pesident and get beat by Hillary.

  11. Prarie values, a good one .Thune is only ever interested in a photo op.Looks like he takes a lot of pictures but when your only working 109 days a year its tough.

  12. Who gives two craps if they left SD to go to school? Even though I am a USD grad – I have one kid that talks about leaving all the time and one kid that doesn’t. I really don’t care – as long as they go to college. And if I were these two – I would leave as well. The possibility of a little normalcy was probably far over due.

I understand not enjoying the article as I thought it lacked an incredible amount of substance – but to pick them apart because of where they went to college is stupid.
