What is the definition of ‘and’?

When I first watched this story in disbelief (mostly because there is no compromise with the board and Homan) I enjoyed the hilarity of their comments;

“How do we make this so it’s an ‘and’ solution. How do we start school as late as possible and have the semester end in December and maximize the number of instructional days for students?” Sioux Falls School Superintendent Pam Homan said.

And what?! Now that you are threatened with an election that you will lose you decided to work with the group? And I only thought it took physical threats against the school board members to change policy? Boy, I look like a jackass.

“If we had more input, we wouldn’t have acted necessarily to approve that calendar. We would’ve very willingly compromised,” Sioux Falls School Board President Kent Alberty said.

LMAO! Yeah Kent, they have only been asking for 4 YEARS!!!! Maybe you need to clean the wax out of your ears.

My advice to the group is to move forward to the election, and don’t look back. Short timer Homan and the deaf, dumb and blind school board can continue their compromise keepers meeting. Now let’s all say the pledge of allegiance!

10 Thoughts on “The Sioux Falls School Board wants a ‘compromise’

  1. The School Board and the new superintendent will be given their direction on April 14th, the day the voters speak.

The train has already left the station…….

  2. Thank you Sioux Falls School District for allowing the community to go through a petition process just to have a voice. Now you’re listening? Please. If you were truly going to compromise, where were these calendars when the petition was successful months ago? 6000 people signing a petition wasn’t enough? You needed a few more phone calls? Embarrassing!

  3. I have definite ideas about how the school year should be, but very few people agree with me because it would ruin their summers. Poor babies!

6000 signatures ? Based upon what ? How was that number determined ?

  5. Kelly, I think that is the number ‘collected’ not ‘certified’

The present school calendar is based on two things. 1) Fall football so they can start early enough to not play the playoffs in the snow and 2) not having graduation on Memorial Day weekend. When that calendar existed, everyone but the seniors went to school after Memorial day. So no matter when you start and end you will ruin someone’s vacation plans. They can also end the 2nd quarter of school prior to Christmas with the present schedule. Not being a teacher, not sure if this is a big deal.

It takes signatures from just 5 percent of the district’s registered voters – about 4,800 in Sioux Falls – to put the question to a public vote.

  8. Kelly, you always should have a 500-1000 signature buffer.

OLD – would agree, doesn’t mean two-shits to me, I personally think kids should go to school all year round with 4, two week breaks per year. I am more concerned about the piss poor response to the public our school board has, for some reason it took 5 years and a petition drive before Homan and the school board took notice.

  9. 13, I have thought school should be all year for many years, but with a month off for the holidays, a month off around Easter and a month off in the summer. I would think with that kind of schedule every family would still be able have their family fun, just not all in the summer.

Another example taken from the City of Sioux Falls.
9-20-1. Percentage of voters required to propose an ordinance or resolution. The registered voters of any municipality may propose ordinances and resolutions for the government of the municipality if the petition is signed by at least five percent of the registered voters in the municipality. The percentage shall be based on the number of voters of the municipality as determined by the county auditor from the master registration file of registered voters in the municipality as of the time of the filing of the petition mentioned in § 9-20-2.
