There seems to be a lot of talk about what is going to be done at this intersection.

A South DaCola foot soldier tells me that 2016 is the year that the SD DOT plans for the overpass and this year they are planning to extend lanes that stop at 57th down to the Tea exit and they also will be building temporary items for when the bridge/overpass construction starts.

So the bigger question is, if the State and Feds are working on this project, why isn’t the city of Sioux Falls getting more involved?

Oh, I don’t know. Why isn’t the city council getting involved in Medicaid expansion? After all – it will have a BIG impact on city residents and business interests.

Answer – NOT THEIR DOMAIN (area of legal authority).

Because it’s not in the city limits ?

Why not ruf? We seem to do very well at sticking our noses in everybody else’s business.

This is the next major expansion of the City of Sioux Falls. If you read the plan, Tallgrass Avenue is to be paved with city utilities this year in preparation for next year’s construction.

There is a reason the city has been moving toward this intersection. There is a growth ring agreement stretching the boundary to south of this intersection over to the north Tea road then east toward toward Cliff Avenue (Tebben’s Campers) to parallel the route of SD100.

There will be a new Sioux Falls sewage treatment plant built to handle this growth ring and Harrisburg.

It would be nice if our city council was able to see these plans before the mayor drops them the panel.

I’m a proponent for a combined city/county government. The area is growing so fast that the best way to manage is one entity. The combined 842 acres will be a fairer tax partition with more focus on infrastructure. Huether’s fun centers can become part of a bigger budget and entertainment radius. County residents are but 5% when combined with the city popukation. Better distribution of social services. The county now handles all welfare while Huether builds a nightclub at the EC and proposes an upscale hotel. Best of all, it’s the easiest way to dissolve Home Rule anarchy & restore constitutional liberty.

The sewer lift stations already exists at 85th and I29/tallgrass area. The city planners kept saying it wasn’t built last year, but then Cotter said its already there, its an 8 to 10 million dollar deal. THats why MMM wanted to suck Walmart onto 85th and Minn. The bully mayor protecting his investments in the area, and interests of his business partner Broin/RMB

why are there no lights at the i-29 and 229 interchange?

Poly – as you well know (or should) cities and counties and their various functions, boards, commissions and so on are all CREATURES (creations) of the STATE. The State government and it’s entities have dominion (say-so/control) over everything that they can – or cannot do.

And I can tell you from experience, the state – has ZERO natural respect for its subordinate entities. They are definitely consistently regarded as inferiors and subjects. Even to the point of being not simply ignored, but actually hindered.

The joint meetings you reference are taking place to a great extent as a systemic response to try to counter the state’s unwillingness to foster intergovernmental collaboration.

As long as those city/county entities don’t step on the state’s toes – they will be tolerated. Go too far and the speed with which legislation would occur to prohibit such joint meetings/efforts will make your head spin.

Oh, and BTW – this whole 29/229 interchange revision has been in the plans for at least 15 years, as has SD 100, and the 85th interchange. I remember reading about it, looking at design alternatives, it being part of several ANNUAL PUBLIC MEETINGS held by SD DOT in Sioux Falls, and the entire area being discussed for more than a DECADE in the planning process.

For you to come NOW and insinuate the city has NOT been involved only demonstrates the extent to which you haven’t been paying attention for the past 15 years. Maybe if you weren’t so focused on PERSONALITIES you could focus on processes.

Rufus makes a point. It seems nothing happens until there’s despiration and (when completed) it’s already obsolete. It’ll be like the new Apple watch phone. Buy it for 10k but pawn it for a dollar when it’s obsolete and you just started/learned how to use it after 6 months. Then it’s time for another 10 years planning for another something underdesigned when completed.
