This is something that has been tossed around for awhile, and I highly recommend the city budgets in 2016 for these units;

Sioux Falls Street Fleet Galynn Huber says the city is in line to update technology on their trucks that will make your life easier the next time it snows.

“When we eventually go to putting GPS units in our trucks so that people can see where we’re at, it’s going to be key,” said Huber

The GPS would track the snow plows as they cleared the roads.

It would also help residents see when snowplows are in the area, for parking, driveway scooping, etc.

    If we’re able to view the map in real time, it probably would be like watching a Pac-Man game. 🙂

    And we would get to the see the guys parked in running Snow Plow trucks at Harmodon Park sitting still on the map. I was there a half hour yesterday. One guy sitting in the south lot, one up by the maintenance shed.

    Using up to date tech incorporates efficient modern methods such that there’s better performance for the same budget. I’m impressed that this department recognizes and implements new tactics. They were prodded by citizens to use snowgates. Since then, they’ve favorably reacted on their own.

    Watertown, SD is now testing out snow gates in hopes of taking them citywide!

    Thank you to City Councilor Staggers and Petition Chair Theresa Stehly for making it possible for SF voters to cast a resounding YES vote for snowgates in our community.

    Watertown – in my experience as a delivery driver to that city – has some of THE WORST snow removal in the country.
