I recently heard from a citizen that was sitting in on discussions about the ADA needs at the new aquatic center as they slowly became unraveled. I guess not only have there been disputes about the ADA bathroom space, discussions about the therapy pool and the VA have come to almost a halt.
Not sure how much of this is true, but I find it ironic/hypocritical that a city that talks about diversity and helping our veterans with a therapy pool is bailing on proper compliance and promises. Also, if it is true, it goes back to going over budget on over promising a bigger pool for less money, and now they are cutting corners and nickel and diming other parts of the building. Mostly the disabled and veterans.
I’ll keep you updated the further I find out.

16 Thoughts on “ADA concerns at the new indoor aquatics center?

“Not sure how much of this is true….” BUT, I’m gonna say it anyhow, ’cause I know it’s the kind of attitude my constituents/readers want to hear. Hey there Cruz Jr., THIS is what’s wrong with “bloggers”.

  2. i heard that there will be a special additive put in the water so MMM’s hair dye doesn’t change green from the chlorine.

  3. Do you know why there are bloggers like this?

Because there are Mayors like Huether who hide information from the public that should be public. Because there are Mayors like Huether that engage in unethical behavior that not only isn’t in the citizen’s best interest but sometimes lines Huether’s pockets.

City employees are powerless to speak up because if they do, they lose their jobs. Several have already lost those jobs because they chose their values over delving into Mike’s ethical grey areas. So some choose to give that information to bloggers instead.

Bloggers, like reporters can’t always reveal their sources, but unlike reporters, bloggers are helping their community for free. And this blogger is doing it without hiding behind an alias.

I know that makes me hypocritical, but I have a job to protect. What’s your excuse Rufusx? You seem to oppose a lot of what this blogger does to expose what’s going on in this Mayor’s administration. Are your lips planted squarely on Huether’s butt? Is that why you’re so anti-South DaCola?

The other thing that speaks to this blogs integrity is his willingness to post all viewpoints. Even the opposing ones, the critical ones, the whiny ones, and even the ones that are just garbage with nothing to say.

  4. Thank you CI, I am blushing a bit. I was just thinking about it today when I first started railing on the city by myself, I was all alone. No foot soldiers. Then I think about today, and all the behind the scenes help I get, not just with donations, but tips and the friendships I have made. Many people have put their neck out there for this blog. Just Bruce alone with his camera, and his activism in the courts, as well as Daily and the Late I.L. Weiderman. We are producing real change. We have even introduced some bills in the Legislature this year for more openness in city government. You may not like what I say sometimes, or how I say it, but I want you to know I do it to make Sioux Falls and South Dakota a better place to live when it comes to transparency and fairness in our communities.

  5. Now you have me blushing a bit. I am helping Scott and others through this site because the injustices we have experienced. If we quit, we are admitting defeat. It leaves us forced to cower in the corner making us all lose.

My camera action is not always very good but I am not using professional grade equipment to uncover the actions captured. I am very proud of the work Scott does to give us this space to help the community. My small part is just part of the work needed to carry on with work Stangland, Brown, Stehly, Daily, Weidermann and more did before us. We all have capabilities we are blessed with, we are trying to use them.

There are many who like to sit in their recliners and complain about everything. We sit in City meetings and partake. We might not be eloquent but we might be a bit more effective than the worn out vinyl recliner crew afraid to put their names and faces on the line.

Some of us are actually having fun doing this activism. Try it, you might like it. Quit complaining and get into the arena.

    Rufusx has constituents?!

    Who elected him to what?

Maybe for the sake of transparency FOR HIS CONSTITUENTS he should reveal his real identity and NOT hide behind Rufusx.

  7. dont pat yourself on the back too hard, you guys and your youtube videos that average less than 50 views sure are producing real change

CI is right. Lots of misinformation coming from city hall. There’s sound evidence and litigation history for civil rights abuse and false arrests. The media doesn’t report because there’s imminent lost advertising and a good old boys coverup. Thanks Bruce and L3wis for exposing city hall and Mike Huether in particular. We’d be cuffed or behind concertina wire if there’s no exposure.

Be aware that the city uses insiders and kiss ass employees to post negative comments here. Were it not for the private videos and YouTube, there’d be no record for future criminal prosecution.

Doesn’t surprise me about indoor pool irregularities. Remember that we (the people) didn’t vote for this. It was a misinterpretation of deliberately confusing election language authored by the city attorney. When the Feds step in to reassume control of federal property (the pool & park) let’s hope they can redesign and correct the inferior construction issues.

you may see 50 IP addresses but many of them are viewed multiple times through the gateways. It is interesting how many times videos are run. YouTube does make those numbers available to viewers.

Glad you watch guest. You might be one of our viewers behind a gateway and we don’t mind or care. We hear comments from the people we want.

Uncle Bruce – I believe you are as clueless at DL when it comes to understanding how Web logging and tracking software works. If YouTube says you had 50 unique IP visits to your video – you had 50 unique viewers.

Facts should be taken seriously. Rumor, innuendo, prejudice and counter-spin are not activities engaged in by the morally superior. Come on down off the high horse.

PS – CI, the non Johnny-come-latelys that attend to this blog know precisely who I am and have for years. Rufus just happens to be a nickname I have been broadly known by for 5 decades. There is no anonymity associated with my moniker – like there is with “CI”, or “transparency”, or “The Daily Spin” – that last one, BTW, doesn’t prevent me from understanding precisely who that writer is either. guest is right – there is a VERY much SMALLer audience here than DLs bluster and puffery would lead one to believe.

If Ruf knew half of what he purports to know. Some day he could learn how things actually work. We are still waiting for him by the telegraph machine.

  14. I know quite a few people including city employees who read this blog regularly but don’t post comments.

I know of several departments in the City where computers are shared by employees so multiple views of the videos would be coming from the same IP address. That’s just one example of how Rufus is wrong.

Speaking of coming down off of one’s high horse, the morally superior aren’t judgmental.

I also hate to burst your ego bubble Rufus since you are so “widely known”, but I can’t seem to find anyone who knows that name outside this forum. So to claim there is no anonymity associated with a screen name is flawed logic.

You’re hiding your identity, making attacks against other people’s opinions, yet claim to have the moral high ground? You then offer opinions stating them as if they are facts – when as I just have shown above, you were wrong. I know multiple viewers are watching from the same computer.

You chew out DL for posting opinions, not facts, then you post “there is a VERY much SMALLer audience here than DLs bluster and puffery would lead one to believe”. How do you know what the traffic to this site is? You don’t. All you can see is the number of posts.

Before that you posted “Facts should be taken seriously. Rumor, innuendo, prejudice and counter-spin are not activities engaged in by the morally superior. Come on down off the high horse.”

Hypocritical much? You haven’t made one post that in any way belittles this blog. You’ve only made emotional, ad hominem, egotistical-based attacks that have belittled yourself.

  15. Blogger – FWIW – I was winning national awards for Web site design before you ever knew it existed (1996).
