There will be a presentation to the city council on Tuesday about saturation patrols in Sioux Falls. I found it interesting the number of people caught with no driver’s license or insurance.

This has been a problem for a long time in South Dakota. It’s one of the reasons I drive very defensively, you never know who is on the streets with no insurance.

3 Thoughts on “Do we have a different epidemic besides texting and driving?

Where do these numbers come from?

Three stop light violations in five months and NONE in the months of June through September.

Anyone who drives in this town of 173,000 knows that running red lights is a chronic problem.

I guess that’s why people continue to run red lights, they know there is no consequence!!

No license or insurance is more common than reported. Fast food workers can’t get to work without a car they can barely afford. They can’t afford registration and insurance too. Count all the temporary tags. If the weather has been good for a month and the car is dirty, the paper tag was photocopied with the date altered. Police know a person has been repeatedly cited. They don’t want the paperwork. I’ll always have collision and theft insurance.

It’s easy to beat a texting ticket. Just say you were looking up a contact for a phone call. If there’s an accident, subpoena the cell phone records. If they were on the phone, they’re guilty even if not. Texting costa more to enforce than the fine. Camera tickets are no more in 30+ states. Take tickets without objections. Then, show up for court. It’s rare that police appear. They must for enforcement. If they do, the judge offers a half price compromise but ask for a continuance and accept only case dismissed.

Don’t play along. Fine revenue could be used for Huether extravagance. Make it cost them until there’s a new government. One that we can trust. We’ll respect them when they show respect for us and stop building indoor entertainment for rich people.

  3. anon, I think these were saturation patrols.
