5 Thoughts on “New Snow gate Video

  1. Did you notice in the video how latent the plow driver was in dropping the snow gate for the sidewalk at the corner?

The City needs to work on that. Unless they are going to take the position that one of the risks of owning a corner lot is a greater chance of heart attack during the winter months.

  2. I am a senior citizen. I do not have a snow blower and I cannot afford to hire someone to clear the snow.

I am very, very grateful for snow gates. They have made my life so much easier during the winter months.

  3. This video is cool. It is amazing what the media services department can do when they don’t have the money or time to record boards and commissions for us to watch.

Our efforts for Snow Gate use from at least 2012 to this year has been a push to say the least. Our petition drive lead by Theresa Stehly pushed on to get almost 8400 signatures to force a citywide vote in 2014. 76% of the voters demanded these devices be attached to our snowplows.

Through all of this we were fought by mayor Hubris, his City Council leadership, city directors, contractor meetings led by city officials and then the illegal city led Advocational Education sessions. Who could ever forget the stories of doom and gloom we were told at those meetings.

Now we Sioux Falls citizens are witness to a few years of manager and operator experience with these devices attached to the big John Deere graders. Is the world coming to an end? You would think so by the message Galynn Huber and Mark Cotter told on February 28, 2017 at the City Council Informational meeting. Galynn and Mark told a story with video of how we can work together even if they had to be brought on screaming and hollering.

Thanks to Theresa Stehly and Kermit Staggers for fighting the good fight for ALL the citizens of Sioux Falls. Snow gates work and they work for us.

Were the plows out today anywhere in the city?

  5. Mike, I don’t think so. One should see those “Over 2 inches” signs as merely historic markers denoting the past from now on….
