In all fairness, we knew from the beginning they weren’t going to spend the week here, but it seems Bruno Mars was more important;

The country star turned 53 on Tuesday, and in honor of her special day, her husband, Garth Brooks, adorably surprised her with a trip to Louisville, Kentucky (to see Bruno Mars).

So I guess our town is good enough to suck $7.5 million dollars out of, but not quite nice enough to spend your 53rd birthday in.

16 Thoughts on “Why didn’t Garth & Trisha spend this last week in Sioux Falls?

  1. Probably because their favorite go-kart broke down. Having them at Thunder Road recently was the greatest economic development ploy by South Dakotans since the time Mujibur and Sirajul road the go karts and bumper boats in Rapid….

Want some cheese with that whine?..

    Jesus…

  3. Like you wouldn’t want to take time off during your birthday with your family between shows? By the looks of it, you you haven’t skipped a birthday meal especially the cake. This group complains if there are events at the center or not. What a group of very angry and sad folks.

  4. Petty

  5. Wow. Talk about misinterpreting what I said. I knew from the beginning they WERE NOT going to spend the week here. My point is that they took $7.5 million in ticket sales out of the local economy in ONE week’s time. You would think they would give some of that to some local charitable organizations?

  6. they did plenty of charitable work and also put on a football camp?

contracted and let local chefs do their catering? Ate at local restaurants….

In addition to all the staff, crew and band members I think there was around 55 how dare they enjoy their downtime somewhere else…good grief

  7. Oh, Oh, Oh, and he gave away a HAT and a GEETAR!!!! 🙁

Yes, they did miss your point Scott. A whole lot of SF MSA money just jetted out of town. Between ticket sales, beer sales, (after all, about 50,000 gallons of beer was sold at just the denny, at 50 cents an ounce, not a bad haul), and merchandise sales, easy to see over 12 million dollars gone. Dollars gone that will never be recirculated in this town again. In the short term, (very short term), this concert was a boost, but how about a month from now, two months from now, where is that 12 million being recirculated, again, and again?

  9. OH My god you people are assholes. Bitching we don’t get events, then bitch that we do. Bitch when it’s empty then bitch when it’s full.

Are you really this big a moron Warren? Why do you get outta bed with a mentality like that? Do you really think that 12 million was all from Sioux Falls and would have stayed here without an event? How DARE you spend money a the Foo concert coming up. Dave Grohl better serve soup at the Banquet while he’s here!!!

12 million could have been spent in Sewer City Garth Shows. I’ve read some dumb shit on this blog, but this thread is full of Super Stupid.

Seriously Scott….This thread reminds a lot of the bullshit Trump tweets about. Some things you post really should stay within your head.

    SHEESH.

  10. i suppose you could argue that concession stand sale money will be recirculated, since the beer and soda distributers are local. and i’m sure the beals like to trickle down on everyone.

  11. LJL, fair enough. But I continue to ask city officials and the CVB the same question with NO answers OR figures. If the EC has been such a big economic boom in SF, why has sales tax receipts been DOWN since it has opened and continue on a downward spiral? Where is the millions in Economic Impact? I don’t see it.

  12. Your spinning again. Your original post was directed at the performers leaving town, then it was at them not doing enough charity, now it’s at the city.

Come on. Just like the Trumpster, you post shit that has little merit.

  13. LJL- You can be a real asshole sometime. If I was you, I wouldn’t use my real name posting here either.

My initial post was about performers like Garth sucking millions from our economy and giving little to nothing back in return.

  14. it could be argued that a dollar spent on this, is a dollar that won’t be spent on that, and a dollar spent during the national anthem is disrespecting the military.

  15. Walmart target, menards, lowes and so on, suck millions out of this city each week while employing locals and making products people pay for. Whats the difference? The only differences is this is something other people enjoy, but you don’t. You’re better than this pettiness.

What would you do if you knew my name? Needing to know my name to value my opinion is a bit creepy Thats a thought you need to think thru. I’ve thought about it and there is 0 upside for me. You do realize these are just opinions about each others opinions?

I’ll say it again. There is no need for us to know each others names. Several of your “regulars” could be a serious risk to my family and thats not fair to them. My point of view is raw, unfiltered and without self preservation. AND… Theres nothing about my personal life that should change your point of view of my opinion. Trust me on that.

  16. Those companies buy local utilities and use local services. Their employees also spend their wages in the community. Yes, much of their profits leave, but with the EC almost everything goes out the door. Artists, promoters, even SMG sends the money out the door. Even the net operating gain doesn’t go back to city coffers, they keep it in a rotating fund. We get ZERO dollars from the EC to pay for maintenance or mortgage which takes millions away from infrastructure upgrades each year.

Your scared for your family? LMAO! I have NEVER been threatened on a personal level by any of my commenters. I have however, received creepy threatening emails from the SD GOP establishment, and some clown on Craig’s List called me fat. Are some of my commenters weird? Sure. I think you are weird. But just because some one is weird, I don’t think they are a threat.

I could care less what your name is, I don’t know who 75% of my commenters are. I don’t care, I will always protect your 1st amendment right to speak anonymously as long as it is productive to the conversation.
