And this guy wants to run our city? Just like his good ol’ buddy Mike Huether, the rules don’t apply.

Not only did he violate two sign codes (early posting, and placing in right-of-way) he put the signs on his property.

There is no doubt in my mind that Jim, like Huether, will break any rule to win, and it looks like he got an early start.

Not certain if this pic is his old harley building on Burnside. If it is not, he also has signs there. Wonder if he will put one on his, and his bestest friends property on St Charles.

will be curious to see what measures will take place on this..

  3. I, although, have always felt that Section 160.576 (i) (2) is a blatant violation of the First Amendment….. As much as you might hate the thought of your neighbor constantly complaining about something with a sign, I believe that such an action is protected free speech….. But his signs shouldn’t be on City property….. Plus, whenever a politician places multiple signs on a “residential property” – absent corner lots – it is, in my opinion, a sign of nervousness and a lack of confidence in their own campaign’s inevitability.

You’ve got him now. Careful not to pull a muscle patting yourself on the back.

  5. I see TenHaken opened a headquarters across from Entenman’s at the old “Barrel” location. It’s game on! Maybe TenHaken can incorporate “cheeseburgers and baseball”* into his campaign theme too, with the help of “Barrel” nostalgia.

It’s to early for paintball targets.

So, will Entenman get a citation? I think not. He’s the windshield and we’re the bug

  9. Having been both a candidate and a campaign volunteer over the years, I can’t remember any candidate of either party or no party ever being cited for violation of the political sign ordinance in Sioux Falls.

Any candidate should be aware of the ordinance and follow it. However, I’ll say that a lot of residents who agree to display signs are not aware of the rules and place signs improperly without intending to flout the law.

Many years ago, a friend of mine was running for the SD Legislature. Whenever he went door-to-door, he would collect all his opponent’s signs that had been placed – improperly – in the city-owned boulevard and “returned” them to his opponent, placing them to the side of her garage.

  10. When Cynthia Mickelson was running her Million Dollar School Board campaign we got a chuckle out of her posting her signs in the Harrisburg and Tea school districts.

  11. MW, the funny part is that this is on HIS property.

  12. I drive on Burnside everyday, the signs are still there.

  13. Are we not tired of another Huether clone? Someone who is against labor. Someone vote for himself, and someone who doesn’t listen to the people.

If this really is on his property, it’s probably someone on this site that put it there just so they have a new topic on open mic night tonight at the council meeting. Maybe David Z can put it in a music video, or Bruce can put it on his clipboard.

  15. Duhkola, glad you like my clipboard.

Duh…Theresa has grass clippings beteewn her flower beds on her boulevard a half inch too long and she is cited. Your buddy entenmanm violates a city code and you look the other way? Your colors are showing…duh.

Cops drive by there several times every day. Like any violation in SF (except speeding) it won’t be enforced without a citizen complaint.

  18. The signs have finally been taken down….

WP – is there a color requirement to post here? I can see both sides of the grass thing and if that were me I’d cut it just enough to maintain compliance.
MMM – I doubt most cops know about this or have this as a priority item to investigate without a formal complaint.
Anon – amazing how the signs came down without the need of kelo, ksfy, and the argus doing a “their picking on me” story.
