Bruce Danielson, a local resident heavily involved in local politics, said Erickson’s “whole life is connections. He would work a room, like nobody could. Just to make the connections needed to make sure everybody knew he was there.”“Paul always gravitated towards where power was at,” Danielson said.
Maybe Bruce should have also told them how Paul’s dad blew the roof off the Dakota Dome in the late 70’s. But that’s a story for a different day.
I have the proud distinction of having been nominated for the Truman Scholarship with Erickson back in the fall of 1980 from USD. This was even after Erickson had to resign as VP of the Student Body for his misuse of a computer print out for the Abdnor campaign, which was suppose to be only used under his custody for a Student Senate election. Many were unhappy that he was nominated too, but he didn’t get the award, however, nor did I though….

Bruce is a prominent political activist. I commend him for filming local government meetings. Taxpayers pay for video that is incomplete. Record keeping is required by law but elected leaders refuse compliance. Bruce has been harassed with false charges and even arrested. He’s cleared himself many many times at his own legal expense. I ask myself, is this country any more free than a communist country when political leaders can openly ruin the lives of citizens without facing repercussion.
