City Council Informational Meeting – 4 PM

Presentation on rate increases for ambulance service

City Council Regular Meeting – 7 PM

Item #7, 1st Reading, rate increase for ambulance. I encourage people to come speak to this item. You can now speak at 1st readings during city council meetings (I think it will be in affect). We need to push the city council to pursue a public ambulance service.

Item#11, Resolution, Implement a City Flag. I think this will pass the council 8-0, but I do expect some testimony from the flag supporters. Initially I wanted to see the process of selecting the flag to start over. But I have been reassured the process used was a good one. Besides, as pointed out during the informational presentation, if we did the process again, who is to say it won’t have the same results? I think our city council has a lot of important business to take on these days, and we should just approve the flag and move on already.

5 Thoughts on “Sioux Falls City Council Agenda, July 10, 2018

  1. 1st reading comment is not until August

  2. I’m still always amazed that the council has to vote on a rate increase for the ambulance company that is guaranteed by their contact.

So for the council to vote against it would be a violation of the contract.

So first of all, how can it be legal if it overrides the required council vote since they have to approve the expenditure but can’t say no?

Second, the contract made all of the future increases guaranteed expenditures for future budget years which the funding hasn’t been approved and appropriated as required by the council.

Why doesn’t everyone see this is a sweetheart deal specifically designed to keep the ambulance provider profitable and ensure the council can’t interfere?

The health department director has some explaining to do.

Seems like a mild session. The council deserves this now. Show some love. Makes it easier for when future sessions seem hostile.

  4. After the City Flag issue is resolved. I predict the Council will then address other pressing issues like requiring local restaurants to rename ‘French Fries’ as ‘American Fries.’ Or, should they first deal with the growing menace of bear sightings in town?…. Personally, I hope they work to assure that there is appropriate landscaping done around the southern and western sides of the Romantix building, too…

  5. Our new mayor needs to replace Public Health Director, Jill Franken.

So far, he hasn’t shown any inclination that this will happen.
