Hoorah! The SD ACLU is going to give you a ride to the polls. Yet, they have no intention to investigate those same polls.

We told the ACLU before the school bond vote that the election should be looked into, especially how district employees were using taxpayer resources to promote a YES vote.

No response.

We told them about having NO precincts in the Northern part of the SFSD.

No response.

We told them that the election could be held with the general election (which would save taxpayers money) and use all available precincts.

No response.

We told them that the E-Poll books don’t work and super precincts are a way to sway the vote.

No response.

After the election we discovered that IPC employees, mostly Finance Department counted the vote. NO independent volunteers, NO teachers and NO poll watchers.

No response.

If the ACLU wants to promote fair, equal and open elections, they would be investigating the school bond vote. But they haven’t.

Why?

My guess is because it is about the free public education of kids. Which I would agree. But this wasn’t about the education of children, this was about running an election above board. We don’t know if it was, because the key piece of evidence that the ACLU could pressure to get, the ballots, are being withheld from us for 60 days.

Ironically the $300 million in bond debt doesn’t educate one single child, it doesn’t even raise teacher pay. Almost 75% of it goes towards East Coast bond investors and the rest to contractors who build the buildings.

If the ACLU wants to promote equality during elections, I would agree. This is why they should use their resources to look into the school bond election.

The Sioux Falls Democratic Forum invited Elizabeth Skarin to talk about Voter Rights, Political Rights and what to consider when electing officials including the Attorney General of South Dakota. This Friday noon presentation was at the Royal Fork temporary location on July 20, 2018.

What’s the big deal with naked people anyway? Pretty soon we won’t even be able to be naked in the shower;

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — The American Civil Liberty Union is lobbying for changes to state law to prevent streakers from being classified as sex offenders.

The move follows the arrests of a dozen people who ran naked down Boulder’s pedestrian mall last Halloween and faced having to register as sex offenders if convicted. The 12 ticketed during the Naked Pumpkin Run faced indecent exposure charges, but most pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.

Also last year, more than 60 cyclists biked bare in Boulder to protest oil-burning cars.

The ACLU is hosting a public forum called “Naked in Boulder” Tuesday at the Wolf Law Building on the University of Colorado campus to discuss whether streakers, naked cyclists and others should be treated as protesters and pranksters or criminals and sex offenders.

We may never be safe again

A letter writer has been disapointed with Obama so far. Me to. He still has yet to start on an exit strategy from Iraq. Three of his appointments have had money problems and he just can’t seem to make Republicans happy (go figure). But this guy could care less about those things;

We we’re willing to give Barack Obama a chance, even the military veterans. But on the first day of his presidency, he decided to suspend Guantanamo war crime trials, outraging family members of 9-11 victims and making it difficult to get a conviction on these cases.

Well, Daniel, the prisoners are still there, and until we can transfer them safely to another secure location, they will stay there. We are not releasing them anytime soon.

Unfortunately, this is going to be the new precedent. I’m afraid our country is on a path of weakness, and we will not change our course until another Sept 11. Then we’ll toughen up for two years and then fall again, continuing our cycle of self-destruction and weakness in order to maintain political correctness and keep the American Civil Liberties Union happy.

First off, it was Bush and the right who failed us on 9/11. Bush was warned and did nothing. Secondly the ACLU is an organization that will defend ANYONE’s civil liberties, not just us on the looney left. civil liberties are very American, we continue to remain a FREE country because of them, not because of a lack thereof.

People keep asking why the military and veterans are scared of an Obama presidency and those on the left.

Better check the numbers, Obama received more of the veteran vote than Bush did in 2004. Who do veterans trust to keep us safe?

Obama’s message was clear when closing Gitmo; We don’t torture and we don’t treat our prisoners like the terrorists treat theirs. We are better than that.

Every once in awhile a Sioux Falls City Councilor surprises me. Bob Litz did this yesterday when he asked Mike Cooper from the Planning department this question (Jan 20th info meeting), in reference to the zoning of the NEW Islamic Center,

“Why is there a disparency between what the fire code requires in occupancy and what the zoning commission requires?”

Cooper responded, “It’s very complex.” And he added that the fire department has different standards. Uh, well duh, Mike, that’s why Bob asked the question. Shouldn’t the fire department and Zoning commission be on the same page?

But this isn’t about occupancy, it’s about bigotry.

Cory from Madville writes a great post about the veiled bigotry that I have been concerned about for awhile towards the new Islamic Center.

It all started a few weeks back at a SF city council informational meeting (Jan 5th) when a ‘concerned citizen’ (Ignorant/Hypocritical Protestant) took pictures and shot video of African-American immigrant Muslims protesting Israel’s attack on Gaza across the street in a public park from the other Islamic center on 6th street. Councilor Staggers asked the gentleman what his feelings were on the First Amendment, and the guy seem to be confused about it’s meaning and started talking about city ordinances, etc. Staggers reminded the citizen that the U.S. Constitution trumps all municipal and state laws and as long as their protesting was peaceful he couldn’t do anything about it.

Later at the City Council meeting I thanked Staggers for reminding the citizen about the First Amendment and I also said publicly if any of these protesters feel threatened or intimidated by the local authorities that need to contact the National Coalition Against Censorship or the ACLU for legal advice.

This is flat out bigotry because of their faith, that’s it, and it is pretty obvious. I will say the city and council have been doing their best to handle the zoning issue as smoothly as possible, it’s the citizens in this neighborhood that are causing problems and continue to hassle the city about restricting them, even though most (Christian) worship facilities in Sioux Falls are in residential areas.

I don’t belong to any religion, so I don’t care if people are dancing naked around old sprint car tires in their churches, just as long as they follow zoning rules they have the right to do whatever they want to in their church, the First Amendment guarantees it.

I suggest the Islamic Center contacts the ACLU and get some legal advice before this thing blows up into something bigger.
