The Sioux Falls Economy is experiencing extreme shrinkage.

According to Dave, and his rose colored glasses, everything is just great!

Munson says “our unemployment rate is still low so hopefully we can take the people that have lost opportunities and jobs and get them back into other parts of the work-force.”

Like holding signs in 40 below windchills on street corners.

“When we saw oil prices start to go up we really started working with all the different departments to cut fuel costs and to really look at efficiencies and how we could conserve inner fuel so we were very successful there and then fuel costs have really dropped dramatically for us which really helped.”

Like not plowing secondary streets, intersections or dropping gravel or salt. We are saving buckets of money!

And all of sudden the lifelong Republican conservative Mayor is Barry’s best friend!

Munson thinks president Obama’s plans will benefit Sioux Falls in a big way.

“next year when we get the stimulus package with some of the infrastructure needs we have there that should help bolster up this area here again, along with some of the preliminary plans we’re seeing we hope it can be another good year for the city of Sioux Falls.”

When there’s money being handed out, Mr. Munson has no shame!

So even though everyone is experiencing economic hardship, mayor Munson remains optimistic about the future of Sioux Falls.

Because, Heck, it ain’t my money I’m spending! “Hey Jodi, need a raise?”

5 Thoughts on “Layoffs, Tax and Fee increases, City Debt . . . who cares! Everything is just freaking peachy!

    David’s a grower, not a shower.

It would be really nice if he could talk the way he writes because these run-on sentences really are hard to read and they get confusing as to what the original point is of the answer to the question and really make him look like even more of a buffoon.

  2. Having trouble sleeping? Watch his budget address. I don’t think Dave is dumb, but I do think he is aloof.

What a laff that one is. Wait a couple of months. Sioux Falls over the past two decades has built lots of new homes, thanks in large part to banks doling out $200,000 mortages to young kids who no way in hell could afford them. But the banks said they could, so I guess that’s enough for this generation. New housing starts in SF have dried up. There are virtually no capped homes ready for the tradesmen go to work in. In the pat, that’s how they made it thru the winter. It’s gonna be a long, cold, and hungry winter for a lot of folks in this town. Look for wood products giants, Dakota Kitchen & Bath, Showplace, and Starmark to have a round of layoffs before the spring rains. But hey, Mayor Dave says we can absorb people who lose their jobs. Where? And more importantly…for how much?

I’m sure there are plenty of call centers looking for new warm bodies to work for around $9/hour. Come to think of it, that seems to be the going rate at McDonald’s these days.

  5. Smoke & Mirrors that’s what Dave is all about. I have friend who works for a subcontractor who supplies indoor building materials to contractors. She told me last month that over half their business is new construction. She said the only people buying are small remodelers and individual homeowners. The arterial street mantra was just a trick to get the sales tax raised to 2%. If those roads DO get build, there won’t be any new homes on them. Munson knows it. I get so sick of his tricks. If you want to screw over taxpayers, fine, but don’t try to trick us. It’s like that calendar and the “90% of you say this is a great place . . .” F’ing propaganda. I wonder if he knows much about fascism?
