2009: The Summer of Love?

I don’t know what’s going on, but 2009’s concert schedule is about to be invaded by a bunch of hippies. To be honest, I am no fan of hippies nor their music. So, you can imagine my chagrin upon finding out that both the Grateful Dead and Phish (pronounced “P-hish”) are reuniting this year.

While the Phish reunion is not all that surprising, I imagine the Grateful Dead reunion will look something like this with Jerry Garcia being dead for 14 years.

the grateful DEAD

I’m with you one that Como. When Jerry died I made a t-shirt that had a picture of Elvis and Kurt Cobain sitting next to each other on it and at the top it said ‘Jerry Garcia is dead’

I saw The Dead @ Tampa in the Summer of ’03. Dylan and Robert Hunter opened up for them. I drank copious amounts of stadium beer, compounded that with a ‘contact’ buzz and ended up having to stumble 200 meters halfway around the stadium concourse and stand in 1/4 inch of mystery liquid in the bathroon to puke my guts out in a trough urinal half a dozen times. One of my last memories of the night is a security guard stopping me to ask if I was ok, and instead of putting me in cuffs for being shitfaced, he used his magic keyring to open up a private baby changing room about 20 feet from where our seats were. I took a little snoozer in the sparkling clean tile floor, and woke up in time for the encore.

Angry Guy, that may well be the best concert memory I’ve ever heard/read. Awesome.

I aim to please.
I like the Dead. I hate hippies. The Dead were lots of different things to lots of different people. Jerry will always be a guitar god in my book. I was sad when Jerry died, but it didn’t ruin my day. Not like when Dale Earnhardt was swept up into heaven to be God’s Chauffeur.

Oh, he has more.
