  1. Mayor? Heck I wish he were our Governor!

We were visiting some friends on a lazy Sunday afternoon about three months ago who live out by 41st and Sycamore. Who happened to be out knocking on doors? That’s right. Kermit. He asked what concerned us. I said the second penny sales tax. His car remained in front of our friends home for at least an hour as he stopped at each home and introduced himself. Say what you want…the man is going to have the kind of grass roots support money guys like huether can only dream about.

  3. He has been doing that ever since he has been a councilor. I admire him a lot. He has such a strong sense of community and public service, I often get annoyed when people try to demonize him. I always say the same thing, “Give him a call or knock on his door, your opinion will change very, very, quickly.”

If he’s not Costello or Brown and if he comes out in favor of repealing Home-Rule, he’ll be my choice.

  5. I will give you he works really hard. I have know Kermit for more than 12 years. He is just wrong on so many issues when it comes to public policy. You can call that demonizing him but it is true.

Look at his votes as far back as his days in the legislature. Not to mention those on the city council.

Also as Mayor he would need to work with people and build coalitions. You can only be against everything for so long. At some point you have to lead. That is a lot tougher.

I have agreed with Kermit part of the time but mostly because our current mayor committed multiple frauds and still got re-elected.

  6. What issues has he been wrong on?

I told him he was wrong to be against the homeless shelter funding because it actually saves the city money. I did however agree with him that SS, the VA and Medicare should help fund the facility.

I also think voting against the new golf clubhouse was silly. The city courses make money, if they want a clubhouse fine. But I agree with Kermit that the courses should have their own funds for capital improvement instead of taking the money from the city’s CIP.

I also scolded the entire council, including Kermit, for voting to subsidize FEMA, the FEDS and the Corp of engineers by making SF taxpayers build the levees. We will never get repaid.

Kermit may be wrong on some issues, but he is always looking for solutions, as I demonstrated above. If you think a majority of voters agree with the other 7 councilors all of the time, you must be high.

Anytime I mention the Mayoral race I only hear two names mentioned. Huether and Staggers.
