Gotta a good chuckle out of this story, seems a big liberal lawyer had a few drinkies and a stash to boot;

A Sioux Falls lawyer is facing charges of driving under the influence and possessing marijuana after she led officers on a chase reaching 100 miles per hour early today.

Hey, not gonna throw any judgement here. But you would think a lawyer who defends the same kind of people would know better then to carry a left-handed cigarette around in her car, especially when drinking and driving? Maybe fellow democrat Mayor Mike can throw Mary a pardon 🙂

The pursuit lasted about three miles, and Giebink was charged with DWI, aggravated eluding, speeding, stop sign violations and possession of marijuana, Harris said.

Democrats ARE more fun.

10 Thoughts on “Better hire a good lawyer

    Heres the deal. Don’t care if people drink and smoke pot, just don’t drive, especially if you are a lawyer who defends these people. I expect her to be disbarred, but hey, probably never happen. They still let Janklow practice law.

    Janklow drank and drove for years and got by with every offense he had. Even the last one.

    This woman hired Todd Epp, she deserves to be disbarred on this fact alone.

    He works for her.

    It’s unfortunate, just looking at the video — if this is a second DWI — it’s most likely an addiction problem. I’m glad no one got injured in the chase and hope that she’ll get treatment. It might be a career she’s messed up, but if she didn’t take any lives with her — that’s one good thing.

    Addiction or not, this stuff bugs me. It’s not like Mary is living in a cardboard box under the viaduct. She has a wide network of friends, co-workers and family. Not one of them thought to do an intervention? C’mon. It is obvious her defense will be ‘addiction’ and maybe it is true, but I get so sick of elitists (from both parties) blaming something else besides themselves for their actions and getting away with it because other birds of the same feather are looking out for them. If this would have been me, they would have thrown the book at me. She should be living her life to a higher standard, and if she was capable of doing that on her own, someone who ‘cares’ about her should have stepped in.

    Oh, it bugs me too … and life is hell with folks that care or live with addicts. One of my coworkers should be nominated saint for all she put up with way back when. You can’t watch them 24/7. My blood boils too, when someone is injured or killed because of a drunk driver.

    She should be living her life to a higher standard — yes, as should all addicts. The wiring isn’t rational. Sometimes they don’t get it until they hit rock bottom. A normal, rational person doesn’t toss their career down the tubes or make reckless decisions or wake up and think a cop chase at 100 miles per hour while intoxicated is a good idea. Ever try to reason with a drunk or try to plead or care around an addictive person? They don’t just turn around and say, “Gee, you are so right. I’ll turn my life around because you say so.” Most likely, those around her have been through trials and frustrations in trying to steer her straight and feel like they’ve been slamming their heads against a brick wall.

    I think if it would have been any of us, we’d be all be doing the perp walk and looking rough around the edges, as she did. Hoping there is some good that comes of this, like this being her rock bottom and redirect back to recovery.

    You are missing my point. I don’t have a problem with Mary drinking or even smoking weed. So what. I would go so far to say, she doesn’t have an addiction problem. And why do I say that? Because of what I said above. People close to her would have noticed and done something about it. My assumption (and trust me, it is only my assumption) as a lawyer, I have a feeling she is using the addiction card to get a lesser sentence. Kinda like Diet Coke drinking Janklow used his dieabetes as an excuse to speeding, running a stop sign and killing a man.

    I guess really what I am trying to say is; I don’t trust lawyers, addicts or not.
