First off, I would like to say that I appreciated Mayor Huether coming to say hi to me at Jazzfest. Not sure if he reads my blog, or you have Lil’ Darrin read it for you, but I haven’t been very nice to you for a long time. I will clarify something I have said all along though, I have nothing personal against politicians, or Mike for that matter, I just disagree with Mike’s policies, and I have a weird way of showing my discontent.

But let’s move on. I was a little shocked that an Gargoyle Leader reporter said this;

Imagine, Huether said, what could get done if there were “two of me.”

It’s the kind of broad, bold statement that can be read several ways. Is it an admission of hubris? Or a declaration of devotion to the job and public service?

While the story was informative to people who haven’t been following His Man Mike, it was mostly old news to me, until Mike pretty much slams Munson, and as usual, Davey Northside is oblivious;

According to Huether, he has been more transparent, more accountable, more communicative, applied more scrutiny and taken things “to a higher level” than previous administrations.

His predecessor, Dave Munson, isn’t sure what Huether means.

“What are we taking to a higher level?” Munson said. “I guess I would have to go back and see what happened in the last eight years that Sioux Falls didn’t move forward.”

Hey, Dave, he was talking about ‘communication’ and ‘secrecy’ NOT development. And BTW, since you bring it up, what’s going on with Phillips to the Falls these days besides an ugly plaque and goose shit?

Not to switch gears, but let’s talk about code enforcement, again. Finally an Gargoyle Leader reporter brings up it’s flaws;

Improving the system should also include a thorough review of the various codes to see if they’re necessary. At times, the city sends its people mixed messages. The city wants us to conserve water. But there’s an ordinance that requires 90 percent of your front yard to be covered with “living ground cover.” That’s grass, which needs lots of water.

I love contradictions.

6 Thoughts on “Mayor Hubris and Code Enforcement

    Honest Mike gets his talking points from reading this blog Scott. Don’t fool yourself. Do some truly believe he gets them from his Saturday morning talk and listen sessions? No chance in hell. Those seesions are mainly filled by city employees either kissin ass or holdin on for dear life. You spose he gets softballs thrown his way at these staged events?

    THE ONLY place where code enforcement is ever even brought up is right here, on this blog. So when Honest Mike makes a statement like this…

    “I think one way you improve the process or make code enforcement more simplified is organizationally you improve that structure, and that’s what Kevin and Mike and their teams will work to do,”

    Is he gettin his talking points from YOU or maybe his favorite lackey, Darrin? Either way…they’re from these pages.

    Oh, and by the way, Hi Mike, how are the good folks at city hall this fine morning?

  2. Well, if he does, here are four words he needs to start using, “Due Process” and “Property Rights”

    I think Mike is well aware of the public sentiment, and he is even more aware of lawsuits that have occurred and resulted in the city losing due to a lack of due process.

    I don’t want to suggest Mike isn’t aware of your blog, but in the scope of things it is one of several dozen that discuss city government and/or politics and I sincerely doubt Mike is viewing your website on a daily basis when making decisions on what direction he wants to lead.

    If Mike had to shape his vision of Sioux Falls upon the complaints of bloggers or comments placed upon Facebook pages tied to Sioux Falls, he surely would not have hired Curly Smith nor would he even think about a way to turn those red light cameras back on.

    I kind of had to laugh at the picture where he was visiting with some people at a table at the Whisk and Chop, and not one of them was even looking at him.

    Why would they? They were in heaven. Eating bland cinnamon rolls and drinking crappy coffee.

    I tried to watch the last Whisk-n-Chop on propaganda TV-16. Where do they find these people? They’d be perfect in a scifi body obsessed flick.

    A recent council meeting focused on clean-up resolutions. I see what’s happening but the population doesn’t. They snuck in sidewalk repairs etc. usually assessed the property owner. When I heard ‘posted on their door’, that’s not legal service. They believe they can cite and/or lien property owners. Not true. They can fine but not lien. It’s not in Home Rule authority. They can’t collect fines because there’s no appeal (city or citizen). Court will not hear their case until they revise ordinances to comply with state and federal constitutions. I feel sorry for all the suckers who pay. I wish there was a good way to get the word out.
