There has been a lot of chatter lately that Mayor Mike is planning some more staff changes, but what will they be? While this does not surprise me, I assume they will come after his budget address on July 22.

Here are some possible scenarios;

• Darrin Smith will move to a different position or get a new title.

• Cooper and Rowenhorst will resign after the budget is complete.

• Terri Ellis Schmidt will leave the CVB. (This one is interesting, while the mayor doesn’t have the power to fire Terri he can cut funding. Ellis and Huether are at odds about expanding the CC. And if you don’t play the reindeer games, we know what happens to you.

It will be interesting to see how this all pans out. I may be completely wrong on my predictions, but I GUARANTEE something is happening soon.

I tend to agree with you on this one. Politicians don’t hire good ol boy buddies, then slash their funding to the bone. Public parking? As I recall, it took a major hit in honest mikes budget proposal a while back.

Yeah, I wonder what is in store for Mr. Smith . . .

Cooper and Rowenhorst are old style and should leave. However, Huether buddies coming into these slots could be more Munson-type taxpayer pilfering.

I sure wish Huether had power over the union to fire a few problem city employees and lay off many other unproductive ones.

I saw 11 city employees and 7 city vehicles on North Cliff yesterday. They were sitting under a tree. I went by twice 45 minutes apart and they’d not moved. Lots of cones and near them was a 4′ x 20′ street patch that’s been untouched for days.

How many city employees does it take to screw in a light bulb? When I retire, I’m going to travel around and document these things with pictures, time, and circumstance.

  5. No way is Terri going anywhere. Mike may be mad at her but her connections are stronger and deeper than his. Not a Tiger I would take on. Mike’s support at the chamber was good only because they hated Kermit more!

  6. Like I have always said, Mike won because of the anti-kermit vote.

Without the unfounded ethics complaint by Tornow, I still think Kermit would have won.

I doubt most people even heard about the ethics complaint before the election.

Kermit lost because he had built a reputation as anti-growth – whether it was true or not.

I agree with GoD… that ethics complain might have been the determining factor for about 50 votes, but not enough to sway the election.

Kermit was known as “Mr. No” and he didn’t do himself any favors when he started letting everyone know he was a Republican (the party of No), while failing to remember that Sioux Falls actually supported Obama in the last election.

He would have had greater success if he aligned himself with the Green Party or even the Constitution Party rather than the GOP.

Hmmm…the ASSISTANT of Public Works gets a promotion…maybe a lateral. Considering Mark Cotter, the director of Public Works makes $148K plus, and his ASSISTANT makes $116K plus… you gotta ask yourself…TWO guys in Public Works making more than Honest Mike? Since Kevin Smith just got PROMOTED…it would stand to reason this would be a great time to just let Cotter do his job without passing the buck to his $116K ASSISTANT.

I don’t know, this ASSISTANTS job just seems like way to convenient a landing spot for his favorite lackey….Darrin Smith.

I was surprised to see they are keeping on Cooper.

Are they keeping Cooper? Maybe the pendulem is not done swinging yet. Cooper makes $126K plus. Smith drags along with his lateral another $116K plus and Schmitt retains his position. We’re talkin prolly $350K a year in those three salaries alone makin sure you trim those branches in your boulevard.

I remember your old city violations flowchart. I gotta see it. Could you show that thing again? Time for another LMFAO moment.

And I know it is going to be extremely redundant, but could you start a new post and outline step by step, AGAIN, just exactly why code enforcement is a total farce?

Well for one, the city doesn’t have any constitutional rights in terms of forcing people to comply.

  15. As to the comments about city workers sitting under a tree. These complaints have been heard for years in every city in the world. Please be advised that city employees do not schedule themselves. When I supervisor sends a crew to a location for the day it’s up to him to make sure that the equipment is there and that the employees have something to do. It’s not easy!
While these street dept employees were under the tree other city employees were working hard with outdated equipment.
Many city employees work after their normal hours without extra pay because of the work load. Get off your lazzy butt and go ask some questions. The city workers under that tree would have gladly filled you in. I’m sure that they were frustrated because of what was going on. Try laying under a tree for awhile in high heat and humidity and then having to jump up and engage in hard physical labor!
Have you ever tried physical labor? It’s not like jogging at the gym.
