We will be recording episode #2 on Tuesday. Our guest is a journalist from the Sioux Falls MSM. We will be asking them a myriad of questions.

Shoot away.

*PS – The guest will be introduced and revealed on the show, so keeping their identity a secret until then is not a trick. I just want your questions to be geared towards the Sioux Falls media in general and not the guest.

I will reveal the guest after the recording on Tuesday.

Is the name of the podcast also Southdacola. I will have to check that out for sure!!!

My question would be: Why did KSFY go into tabloid media and ruin a nice hometown boradcast that they had together in the first place? At the time KELO was the big joke in town (yes you Cable and see where you are now..hmmmm). At least KDLT is “keeping local” now if only they had the production budget!

Tabloid news killed the local media…..(which was never that great to begin with…)

Thanks Scott. We were presented recently with the Mayors proposed budget. The Argus did a good job of ferreting out some of it’s misgivings. But why did they stop? There is more. For instance. Each Department has a line item called “Job Performance”. Understandably, nearly all departments took huge hits in this area of management handing out yearly “performance” awards to themselves. Like the Police Department. For 259 employees last year they got $174,189 in this category. This year? Down 88.6% to $19,849. All departments took hits…with one exception. The Mayors Office. Three employeees. Last year the mayor awarded himself and maybe a part of his HUGE staff $51,005 for “job performance”. This year, our mayor saw fit to raise his departments”job performance” bonus to $56,175. What’s up with that? The budget is full of question marks. That is just one of them.

    Question:
Court cases have questioned city government constitutionality and democracy in general. The Argus Leader has reported but why have KELO and KSFY not?

    Here’s a question:

Is there really so little news in this region that we have to make a story about every farmer who complains about the weather, every little improvement to the news station’s hospital overlord, and spend half the newscast on weather/the Pheasants?

if you have someone from kelo, ask why the “sports ticker” usually only has about 3 games on it, that they repeat over and over. if i was great west bank, i’d want my money back.

KELO is still a joke. I don’t understand the point you were trying to make in that comment.

KELO just came out of bankruptcy. CBS programming isn’t bad so one must assume KELO lacks appeal.

Replace the regimented news staff. We realize you must answer to the few who own this town but sneak something in once in awhile. You can covertly join the resistance and someday we’ll be free.

Not only do they have three games over and over with high school games mixed in with the pros in random order, but they don’t tell you which team was at home. Normally, the home team is the one on the right side of the screen at ESPN, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC network sports tickers. The local yokals haven’t figured that one out yet.

  10. Actually (and I hate to admit this), KELO is the cash cow of Young Broadcasting. It’s their other stations, most bought in that post-telecom bill rush to create mega-corps, that put the company into bankruptcy. A perfect example is their San Francisco outlet. It had no network affiliation, and the purchase cost tons of cash.

What do some of you mean that KSFY has gone tabloid? If you mean they sink their teeth into a topic and investigate, I find nothing wrong with that. The city needs some form of media that isn’t afraid to step on somebody’s toes.

Our guest was Argus Leader reporter, Jonathan Ellis. The podcast should be up tonight.

  13. KSFY sinks their teeth into a topic and investigates? I must have missed that night.
