What is with Roger Hunt’s obsession with uteruses anyway?

Representative Hunt is a prime example of someone who tries to legislate morality while making South Dakotans look foolish for electing such a kook bag;

House Bill 1218 would make any verbal or written surrogacy agreement unenforceable and keep parental rights with the woman who gives birth to the child, regardless of whether she is the genetic mother. The agreements would be unenforceable whether or not there was compensation involved. The law also would establish civil penalties for the intended parents in an agreement and make it a felony for anyone who helps establish such an agreement. Doctors who knowingly assist in medical procedures related to surrogacy agreements also would face felonies.

This is no different then telling someone what sexual position they can use in their bedroom, or who they can have sex with for that matter. Maybe Roger would like to propose legislation that says it is illegal to bottle feed calves and lambs formula milk when their mother won’t or can’t feed them?

“How someone in the Legislature can determine and dictate to parents that want children how they should go about acquiring those children, I think it’s ludicrous,” she said.

Well, that’s Roger, Mr. Ludicrous. He wants to tell everyone else how to live their lives, but when it comes to money laundering that is none of our business.

Theresa Erickson, a lawyer specializing in reproduction issues and executive board member of the American Fertility Association, has been keeping tabs on Hunt’s bill.

“What South Dakota is doing is off the charts,” she said.

What do you mean? That’s the SD state legislature every day, ‘off the charts’

SB 201. Further proof our legislature wastes valuable time

From my email box;

Pierre, SD – A bi-partisan group of state legislators have united behind to two bills that would protect South Dakotans from dangerous and risky foreign laws.  The first bill, SB 201, would prohibit South Dakota courts from using dangerous foreign laws that deprive parties of the same fundamental rights granted under the constitutions of the United States and the State of South Dakota.  The second bill, SB 170, would require investment products to carry a disclosure if the security is controlled by risky foreign laws.

One foreign law in particular that has been universally condemned around the world is Shariah, which is found predominantly in the Middle East and has spread throughout Europe.

Really? With a budget shortfall we are worried about the couple of hundred muslim citizens in our state are going to take over our courts? Give me a freaking break. Our country was founded on religious FREEDOM. That means freedom from practicing or not.

Let’s look at the legislators supporting this stupidity and their comments;

State Senator Dan Lederman, stated, “Invoking Shariah law, in criminal and especially in civil cases, is a means of imposing an agenda on the American people while circumventing the US and state constitutions by using foreign laws which do not recognize our constitutional rights and liberties in US courts.  It’s a hostile foreign law that has no place in American courts.”

State Senator Reid Holien, supporter of SB 201 in the Senate announced, “I have seen first-hand the evils of Shariah while in Europe.  Now I’m concerned because people have tried using it in courtrooms around America.  I’m very concerned that many who use Shariah as a defense are often trying to justify criminal and violent behavior.  Or in the case of civil proceedings they are trying to justify forced marriages.  The bottom line is that we can’t let people use dangerous foreign laws in state courts.”

Representative Manny Steele from Sioux Falls is also concerned about the proliferation of dangerous laws that run counter to American rights and liberties. “I have deep concerns about the use of any foreign law in a South Dakota courtroom that condones violence and abuse.  America is a tolerant nation and our courts should not be endorsing or condoning the use of foreign laws like Shariah or any other.

Remember these three names the next time you vote in their respective districts. It seems now the state legislature is concerned about what goes on in European courts.

Representative Charlie Hoffman from Eureka is concerned that certain investment funds are pouring dollars into charities which subsequently fund terrorism.  “At the state level we are limited in what we can do for national security, but what we can do for our country when it comes to the financing of international terrorism, is require investment products controlled by foreign laws such as Shariah to carry a disclosure so South Dakota investors know what they are potentially investing in.”

Well, Charlie, if this is about investing, maybe you should call your rich buddies and tell them to be careful about who they invest with. I’m sure every time they fill up their SUV’s and trucks they question where the oil that made the gasoline came from. Saudi Arabia or Hugo Chavez, both proven governments that support terrorism or terrorists against our country? I suppose they are refining their own gasoline these days?

Never thought I would agree with super Homan.

It seems Pam and I are on the same plain when it comes to school funding;

Sioux Falls Public Schools Superintendent Pam Homan told members of the Downtown Rotary Club today that she thought Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s budget approach was “half-assed.”

HELL YEAH!

A member of the audience asked what she would do if she were in Daugaard’s position.

First, she said, she wouldn’t have proposed 10 percent cuts to most programs after campaigning as though the state had no budget problem.

It’s funny how quickly people forget the rosy picture Doogard painted during the campaign.

Next, she said she’d make sure she had accurate information, and she would prioritize.

BAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, no shit?! Huh! Republicans prioritize. They make sure their buddies finish first.

In reference to Daugaard’s recommended 10 percent cut to education and other programs, Homan related advice from her father, who told her: “‘Pam, if you’re going to do something half-assed, don’t do it at all.’ And so, I wouldn’t make across-the-board cuts.”

I applaud Homan, the super of the largest district in the state, using this language. I get so sick and tired of people sugar coating this stuff. You can only get the shit so shiny when you polish a turd.

Homan said the state ought to spend the $26 million it received last year from the federal Education Jobs Fund on K-12 schools, as it was intended, rather than keep it in state reserves.

Funny how the state cashes checks and forgets where they come from and there intention.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The Ugly Table (#26)

I LIKE OBAMA. TODAY ANYWAY.

It seems like in one swift motion Obama has solved obesity while increasing my dessert sales.

Well, at least he has increased my dessert sales.

Yesterday we implemented a new policy, no bread before a meal unless they want it. (It’s part of Obama’s secret plot to make Americans healthy while he smokes cigs on the WH’s back forty)

We must ‘Ask’ customers if they want bread now.

At first, I thought, OH BOY, here comes the complaints.

But I soon found out 50% of the people said, “No, I don’t want to fill up before the meal.”

I sold a lot of cheesecake and ice cream yesterday.

Who says our legislature wastes time?

I applaud them today for recognizing the US Constitution:

A legislative committee recommended passage of a statewide ban on red light traffic cameras this morning.

That is pretty strong committee support. I predict it will pass on a full vote, and it should. Fining people without an appeals process or REAL proof of guilt (fining the license plate instead of the driver) is unjustified. It’s also unconstitutional. The guilty should always get their day in court.
