I found this post by the Bleached Blonde Norwegian Thunderbolt interesting.

Reliable sources say the mayor and his economic czar have reached out to have Mike Knuth of Public Affairs Company (click on the link to learn more about the company)  to run the events center campaign. In addition, sources say the two have also gone to Sanford and Avera to put in $5k-$10k each to pay for it.

I often assumed Mike would use some kind of marketing talent to sell his POS Events Center plan, it would be smart of him to use private money, but is he really fooling anyone? Jen says it best;

It is interesting there is an effort to hire a consultant to run the event center campaign when there is no identifiable source of funding yet presented to the public.

Well, I can look at this two ways. On the logical side, Jen is right, the public hasn’t seen a funding source, so why would they even consider this? But to be the Devil’s advocate, it is the exact reason why Mikey is trying to sell it to the public before a funding source appears. Those of us who have been following this (and even some who haven’t) know this will cost us well over $200 million, not the $100 million Mike likes to talk about. I don’t think Mike is fooling anyone. There is one thing South Dakotans do best, they like to get by ‘On the cheap’ as much as possible and building an EC won’t be any different.

Come clean now Mike.

9 Thoughts on “Huether to use private money and a marketing firm to sell his shiny turd?

    If honest mike has to use a place like PAC to indoctrinate the masses then he is also admitting to not having the support he desires at the present time.

    Huether gives orders then disappears without justification. It’s the method Hitler used to take over Germany in 1933. An events center will cost 200+ million. It’s proven from similar projects. Teamed with older fru-fru elephants, it will steer the city into bankruptcy. Voters are seniors. They know they’ll not use it and they don’t want to pay for it. Even the best adman can’t change their mind.

    If the REAL numbers were out there, this would have been dead a long, long, long time ago.

    We only an hour and a half away from the 4 PM informational and you still can’t see a copy of Mike’s EC presentation

  5. I really like how on one hand HisMan is asking the Council for $65 grand to figure out how to maximize what they can charge places like Avera or Sanford for naming rights while at the same time he’s asking Avera and Sanford for $20 grand to hire some firepower to sell his plan that’s not actually a plan.

    I’d like to know Jen’s sources. What have you heard Sy?

  7. I’ve heard that the pick is the same guy that worked with Darrin on the 2006 and 2010 non-smoking campaigns and also that both Avera and Sanford are going to give them the money.

    Why is Darrin involved? This has nothing to do with parking cars.

    I think he has become Huether’s ‘muscle’. How sad is that?
