I’m glad I finally found my hoagie recipe book.

Before I get into the actual results I wanted to point out something that a South DaCola foot soldier observed at the Minnehaha County’s auditor’s office last night. The first thing was they commented to me that Roust left Litz with a well trained staff.

Secondly, they observed two candidates at the offices during the tabulating. I believe it was Dick Kelly and Pat Kirschman, but it doesn’t really matter who the candidates were, it is a BIG NO-NO to be within a 100 feet of the auditor’s office during tabulation and voting. Staggers was reminded of that in the last municipal election.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Begalka beating Rausch proved that the governor isn’t the big wheel he thinks he is. I have often felt that Rounds was a very weak governor and Denny is even weaker.

Abdallah finally sent packing. The rumors are that Otten’s co-horts ran a dirty campaign. I actually enjoy Republicans beating each other up. Gene was from the old Janklow guard and it was time for his retirement.

Dave Munson sent back into retirement doesn’t surprise me. I will give Jenna Haggar credit, she is a door-to-door campaigner. The only campaigning I saw Dave do was hanging out with his normal bullshitting crowd at Kahladi’s coffee downtown.

I want to congratulate Hajek for sending the constitutional scholar, Tornow packing.

In district 15, things are going to be heating up in November. I have known Karen Soli for a number of years, if elected to represent us in Pierre, we will truly be getting a gifted individual. Karen is a retired Lutheran pastor and a compassionate liberal, and as smart as a whip.

Also in November is the prime-time battle between Johnny come lately Kyle Schoenfish (used to be a Democrat, and is the son of Mayor Huether’s first cousin) and Stace Nelson. This will probably be the most enjoyable race to watch. Please, Mike, no more voicemail’s about Kyle. Thank You.

  1. “I want to congratulate Hajek for sending the constitutional scholar, Tornow packing.”
Hear! Hear! Every once in a while R. Shawn allows his contempt for certain people to show through. Many people find this to be less that endearing; for a politician it is a ‘Big Gulp’ of hemlock.

I think Karen Soli and Pat Kirschman are already in. No one is running against them and the deadline for an Indy to sneak in has passed.

    Or am I missing something?

That’s right. District 15 is the “Holy Land” for Democrats. Although, I like to think of it as “West Berlin”…. myself.

Thank you JR for clarifying. I tried to find Repug competitors and I could not. Good Work.

Good reporting here. Tornow got beat. I’m ecstatic. Finally, voters recognize a Marxist & narcisist sociopath.

‘Tornow the Nazi’ lost. Munson, the Stalin of Home Rule, got beat by a girl. A good day for Democracy. We can boot Huether too … We can.

Aw, too bad. Now Tornow won’t get to go on any of those fun ALEC sponsored hunting trips with the rest of South Dakota’s public serving geniuses. What a waste of talent.

  8. Can someone give me a reason why District 25 expands into SE Sioux Falls? In my opinion it is way to expansive.

I am also glad to see Tornow out of public service, since he didn’t serve the public very well.

I ‘heard’ and I want to tread lightly here, because we may never know why he was terminated, that he got involved with trying to ‘fix’ a traffic ticket for one of his kids. I always assumed that it had to do with bungling Dan Daily’s case, but I guess if that was case, several other city employees in the code enforcement and attorney’s office should be terminated also.

“the code enforcement and attorney’s office should be terminated also.”. Also treading lightly…. Any agency of government relying on fees or fined in order to exist is ripe for corruption.

No more Rausch! Life is good in the northeast for a while anyway!

Do not answer or sign city citations or notices. City code 2-66 states ‘Judicial review’ and formerly stated ‘either party can appeal into circuit court’. You have no appeal into court. NEITHER DO THEY. City Home Rule charter is without lien or fine collection authority. They must have court judgment. State court ruled them unconstitutional. They must demonstrate compliance. They have not. Do not agree to small claims court. It’s voluntary; decline stating your legal expenses recovery exceeds the small claims limit. When they file into circuit court, have the case dismissed because city of Sioux Falls civil procedures are not recognized rule of law.

In other words, not long before: A nude juice bar, asian massage parlors along Minnesota Ave., highway billboards all along 41st street, etc..

  13. Sounds like Minnesota Avenue is going to RULE in the near future!

  14. Hey, they have a KFC buffet and a few doors down a place that sells ‘spice’ right on the RR tracks. Kickass.

Oh, saw Varilek today at a local DT restaurant. He looks like he is like 19 yrs. Old. Maybe he needs a Mitchell haircut and a bad tan like his competitor? He also needs a wardrobe consultant. His milquetoast plaid shirts scream Salvation Army, 1982.

  16. This is a completely different take on the voting process in Sioux Falls. I went to vote with my son who is Latino and in a wheelchair. The first person to search for his name acted like he did not belong there. She acted like the picture ID he showed her could not possibly be living in our south-side precinct. He should have been provided some assistance in removing the folding chair from the one accessible voting booth. Instead, they just looked at me. When he was done voting, he needed some assistance in getting his ballot into he bin. Again, they expected me to do it. It is my understanding that a voter should never touch the ballot of another voter. We have laws about this. When I expressed this opinion, the persons working at the polls totally ignored me and one person, the one closest to my son who was not doing anything, and most likely getting paid for it, gave me one of the most hostile looks I have ever seen. Doesn’t anyone bother to train these people? Why do I ask? The answer is most likely no. By the way, these same people seem to be there watching the polls every time I vote.

LG – I would file a formal complaint with the city’s ADA department.

  18. Guest Poster on June 9, 2012 at 8:34 pm said:

This is not only an ADA issue but supposedly the primary premise of the Help America Vote Act.

Your son’s right to vote has been violated. If Gant and PP were doing their primary job as the chief voting officers of the state of South Dakota, they would make sure citizens like your son would be able to exercise their RIGHT to vote without stress.

Bob Litz should have trained the poll workers to assist your son without hesitation. It is their job to make sure everyone who walks, crawls or rides into the voting center is able to vote. We have the terrible electronic voting stations for the purpose of allowing handicapped citizens to mark their ballots with the guidance of the poll workers.

So LG, you and your son have now experienced a real effect of the ALEC inspired new rules and leaders. ALEC inspired rules are in place to limit the voting populace to only the Landed Aristocracy, the special class of proper white property owning citizens. The citizens who are handicapped, poor, renters, wrong skin color and other prejudices should not be able to vote.

LG, the people working the polls may not have known the rules but the FAUX News Network is setting up a phony belief in the need for a special class of voters. Sorry LG, your son and my sister do not fit this group. The Gant ALEC crowd do not want everyone to vote.

It reminds of when I worked at the Pavilion in the Great Hall. We had the city’s ADA director put on a special class about ADA rights. I totally understood the laws, but was astonished by the number of (senior) volunteers that were upset that people in wheelchairs were getting ‘special treatment’. Trust me, they would probably prefer to be like you and me, and walk to their nosebleed seat.

There was once an infamous dictator who felt the same way about the handicapped, he shot himself in the head.
