Councilor Staggers has brought this up several times, and I have often been baffled by it . . . we need to employee workers on Sundays to weed flowers on McKennan park’s 21st street boulevard? I shot this picture about 10:50 this morning, Sunday, of a SF Parks worker weeding the boulevard.

Why?

But the city can’t trim city owned trees during the regular work week, because ‘we don’t have the staff.’ But weeding flowers on Sunday? Plenty of staff.

11 Thoughts on “Sunday Parks Workers?

  1. For somebody so concerned about living wages for workers, you sure worry a lot about keeping money out of the pockets of city laborers.

  2. The homeowners along this stretch pay 85 cents a frontal foot for this pampered treatment. The city might be bringing in about $2500 a year for this, and prolly spend ten times that much to buy the plants, plant, and maintain them. Yet, we still are broke enough to throw paratransit riders under the bus? Erpie says 21st street is beautiful. Keep that in mind erpie when dozens of paratransit people have to give up their jobs because you don’t have the money.

  3. Just out of curiosity did you happen to see a city park department truck anywhere around while this employee was taking care of erpies pampered neighborhood?

  4. Yes, there was a JD mini truck thingy parked on the street. I don’t have a problem with Sunday workers, I just find it incredibly strange that they need to maintain this blvd on a Sunday. Seriously?

  5. It is my understanding, from a very good source, that the SF Parks Department has a full time employee whose only responsibility is to oversee the care of the City’s boulevards…. how nice…..

  6. How many boulevards are there, and when this particular boulevard brings in a whole $2500 a year from taxes, seems logical that councilors like erpenbach would want to cut back on this service altogether. Works for her on other needs for rollbacks in spending.

  7. Keep the paratransit buses running. Plant nice grass where the flowers are on this boulevard; not in a highly visible area anyway for most people. Priorities anyone???

I travel this street several times every day.

In addition to a seasonal Parks Department worker for the flower beds, they contract out all of the mowing to private businesses. Seems like it is a different contractor every year.

Probably some nutcase wearing a vest pretending to be a city worker. Otherwise, a city worker pretending to work.

  10. Actually, you people need to realize that there are employees that only work weekends to open up restrooms and clean up the garbage from everyone on the weekends. When all of this gets done they find other things to do to get their hours in. The parks is actually VERY short staffed right now and I think you people should be greatful that we strive to keep up the park and neighborhood the way we do. Also, 21st blvd is NOT under the blvd full time person, it is mainatained as part of Mckennan park. Maybe you people should be a little more informed before you spout your mouth about things you know nothing about. If we didn’t have people in on the weekends you people would complain that the park is a mess and there are weeds everywhere. Take under consideration there is only 8hrs in a work day and one person cannot do everything. Find something more important to bitch about than someone working to make the neighborhood look nice.
