Only one week from a municipal election and the mayor suspiciously steps out on Item#35 (FF: 1:18) without explanation;

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SIOUX FALLS APPROVING THE PRELIMINARY PLAN OF PINEWOOD ADDITION.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF SIOUX FALLS, SD:

That the preliminary plan of Pinewood Addition to the City of Sioux Falls, Lincoln County, SD, is hereby approved, and the City Clerk of the City of Sioux Falls is hereby directed to endorse on such plan a copy of this resolution and certify the same thereon.

Date adopted:

ATTEST:

City Clerk________________

Notice that the mayor is required to sign this document. Will he? That all depends if he is investing in this development. Even after many in the media, his mayoral opponent and many people in the public have said they prefer the mayor and his wife DO NOT invest in developments that have to be approved by his staff members, the council and planning commission.

He is hard of hearing I guess.

Since he didn’t explain why he stepped out on the vote and discussion, I guess we will have to see if this document gets signed before the election, and if so, by who?

14 Thoughts on “Is the mayor or his wife investing in ANOTHER development recommended by the planning commission and planning department

What is the time frame for when this needs to be signed?

I would assume he could sign it today, I guess we will have to wait for the minutes to appear. I’m sure if the mayor IS investing in this project, he will conveniently wait until April 9th to have it signed.

Maybe he had Taco Bell for lunch and had to step out for ‘personal’ reasons.

Check out this article from today’s SFBJ:
    http://www.argusleader.com/story/news/business-journal/2014/04/02/citys-growth-puts-edge-southern-limit/7168693/
“RMB Associates LLC succeeded in having the city annex about 150 acres one-half mile south of 85th and Tallgrass Avenue.”
    Remember this? http://archive.argusleader.com/article/20131215/NEWS/312150010/Investments-projects-raising-specter-conflicts-mayor
RMB Associates is Rob Broin’s company.
He has the developments at East 54th Street (The Villas at Canyon Creek) and 85th and Western (Three Fountains?)
    http://www.argusleader.com/article/20131218/NEWS/312180021/Council-again-OKs-apartments-85th-Western

I don’t know if Huether’s invested in The Pinewood Addition. If he invested in Broin’s development on 54th Street, maybe he is also investing in the 85th and Western development.
The Planning and Building Services Department is in the mayor’s administration. Planning presents these plans to the commission, who approves 99%(?) of the suggested approvals.
    Now what?

  6. What a great mayor we have.

If he and his wife are involved in this investment they are spitting in the eye of every voter in this city.

    M2CW38,

You forget, Mike and Cindy Huether already spit in the eye of every voter in this city when they invested in Mike Crane’s TIF #11 at Bancroft Place near Terry Redlin. Drive by and take a look.

If you go to the link above and scroll down to Item#35 you see that a typed signature appears of the mayor’s. Still waiting to see the actual signed document. Probably not appear until April 9th.

Anyone who’s elected to any significant and/or high ranking position must refrain from doing any kind of large investment during their term(s) except for what they already have prior to elected. When their term(s) is up, then they can do any investment they want.

Less conflict of interests and for peace of the citizens’ minds. That is what I would like to see but unfortunately, it’ll never happen.

I guess there was a postcard that was in some mailboxes today from the (Minnehaha county?) GOP. It rails on Huether about his development investments and being a tax loving Democrat who was an Obama delegate in DC during the last presidential election. I guess there is a nice picture of Barry on the card. I haven’t seen it yet.

    QUESTIONS FOR ETHICS HEARING:
Is he involved in ANYTHING that’s not associated with the mayor’s office? Is there ANYTHING he’s been successful at that he did without engaging in public or private fraud? Is there anything about his new wealth that’s legitimate?

How about this for ethics? — ask MMM to give back to the city of Sioux Falls the funds he made on inside knowledge of money making investments. This means the knowledge that Planning and Zoning dropped in his lap because he wanted them that way. city
Offices in Sioux Falls for poorly designed drainage and other projects spec’ed out cheaply to enable MMM to sweep funds for the EC. Another thing, let’s have him reimburse the taxpayers for personal use of a city Attorney. The list will grow I’m sure.
