8 Thoughts on “Hat Gate

I don’t support wearing hats in a formal setting like Carnegie.

    But, seriously Rex, walking out…….

He seems to be taking himself far too seriously these days!

  2. There is a lot that goes on at Carnegie I don’t support, people wearing hats are the least of my concerns. As this came up last year, it comes down to Rex being his typical bullying self. Instead of asking people to remove their hats, he demands it. He also wanted a veteran to remove his memorial hat at a meeting. This isn’t about the courtesy of taking off a hat, which I do agree with, it’s how Rex goes about intimidating and embarrassing speakers. Some people wear a hat all day long, everyday, just a part of their wardrobe that they may never think about, they certainly are not wearing them to offend people.

  3. Fairly clear case of jackass provoking a jackass. Yet another example of a fool who believes haranguing our government is a hobby

I wouldn’t wear a cap in a public meeting but I wouldn’t think of berating someone who does. You have all the right to publicly out yourself as a doufass. Belfrages observation of self centeredness is spot on for both sides of this stupidity.

I guess I have to thank my elders for teaching me a sense of decorum.

I deliberately showed disrespect for the council and Rolfing in particular. It takes courage for citizens to address the council. He shames most and shows signs of discriminating against veterans and women. When you wear a thousand dollar suit and sit at the front of the room doesn’t mean you are dictator. His duty is to answer ‘Yes’ to the mayor’s policies. That’s it.

City government regularly violates the rights of citizens. It’s been proven with court cases. Their charter gives them absolute power in the form of a dictatorship. I’m glad citizens noticed. Now listen to what I had to say. It’s more important than getting your attention with a silly hat.

When city government returns to of, by, and for the people; I’ll always respect and remove my hat. Otherwise, wait till you see me in my 6′ sombrero.

To each their own, this wearing a hat inside issue, and its etiquette, is merely a remaining vestige of the Victorian Age and obviously an attempt at control by some of our local political leaders.

Wearing a hat all of the time for some is merely a part of their wardrobe, as l3wis mentioned (Did you all notice Paula’s hat at the Trump press conference this past weekend?), but it also speaks to the growing divide between the elite and working class in the absence of or a diminishing middle class in our community and nation.

We should all be more concerned about our government buildings wearing the name of corporate America on their signage, than a concern as to whether someone wears a hat to a city council meeting.

And when it does come to wearing something on your head, especially in political terms, well, some are willing to do it:

    Others choose not to:

And still others are not fooling us when they do:
