Oh look, let’s see what’s behind the curtain, nothing but excuses, promises and bluster in Vermillion, SD. Try they might, the “established” SD Democratic Party continues to hold listening sessions. These sessions are comprised of mostly listening the same crap from the same people. It’s as if the Listening Tour of the party brass is being done to convince those in attendance to give them one more chance. Why?

Notice how Cameraman Bruce captured the party chairwoman blathering on about how great the leadership did. What? Where? The people who won and the winning ballot issues happened in spite of the things they did. The audience did not show up to hear central office excuses or rationalizations for continuing the crappy job being done.

Several candidates stood and talked but it appears they got little or no help in coordinating anything. Local efforts received no storefronts, no legwork, no leaving Sioux Falls office and no use of offered services they could not control. The only thing they were able to do is lose seats in the legislature in and election and cause the loss of the Democratic stronghold District 15 senate seat. Nice work and they all got raises.

The party could not even get together to build a bowel movement much less flush any corruption down a toilet. There are words for the show they are putting on and we don’t think this is the place for them.

Playing Facebook games and ignoring sage advice from people who have actually won elections is not going to bring the SD Democratic Party back to life. The only consolation to this dog and pony show is knowing the SD Republican Party is heading down the same path and they do not seem to recognize it.

10 Thoughts on “SDDP Rebuild, Vermillion meeting, Dec 14, 2016

  1. Tell me more about this business of the SDGOP “heading down the same path”. How is that happening? How does that affect their dominance at the polls? Do you foresee some third party stepping in?

Jay and Ray are nice guys and Ray brings up a very good point that the South Dakota Democratic Party should distance itself from the national party. South Dakota is very unique politically.

An old college pal of mine is looking to run for the legislature next cycle and feels the South Dakota Democratic Party has nothing to offer and that it could hurt my friends chances of winning. The attitude this person has is there is nothing to lose with running as an independent until there is another opposition party alternative here in SD.

If elected as an independent is your choice to caucus with a certain party permanent to that session or can it change daily or weekly?

  4. As someone who has observed both parties for many years, I have seen the structures of both devolve. The Democratic Party is well known but I also have watched the SD GOP base no longer have the strength it once had. It is called laziness only propped up with massive influxes of money.

Try to accomplish anything using either party structure and you will see the only thing many of them will do is play with their computers because it is cheaper or the latest fad or someone’s gee-whiz plan. Facebook games are staffers thinking they are going to accomplish anything positive sending Facebook posts to the world and actually sway a voter. Pathetic use of staff when they should be out working with and organizing people to actually “touch” voters.

I know I am old school in my approaches to politics but people still want a desire actually interaction in person.

Not just once but many times to reinforce the message, whatever it might be. Why do you think FAUX NEWS works for Democrats and Republican? Because they press the same message many times over and over everyday, every week, every year to pound it into the brains of the brain dead.

People by and large are lazy about politics. They want the easy answers. FAUX NEWS gives they the guttural quick easy answer to solve the world problems. Until the Democratic Party understands this and tries to solve it, they will continue to fail.

As for the GOP, the Trump and super right wing wins are going to end the GOP as we have known it. It is historical and hysterical.

Door knocking and meeting people one on one or in small groups face to face is so much more effective in actually connecting with voters. Yeah it takes time but it is well worth it and it gets you out too burning calories and being outside.

While campaigning I met people that are not Democrats but simply want change in who represents them during the legislative session. Then there are the Democrats that feel isolated out there and are grateful that you stopped to visit. Some just need that nudge to become active volunteers. A few Libertarians that might be persuaded if the local GOP legislator is a complete nut and then there are the those who are more reserved and you do your best with what little time they give you.

I don’t see much coming out of these listening & learning sessions and it will be the same old same old with time, opportunities and more good candidates being wasted. With limited resources becoming a party of ballot initiatives while a super majority of nuts are in Pierre?

My old college pal has nothing to lose by running as an independent. Seriously what is there to lose?

Democrats lack identity. Gone are the days of presidential affairs and I didn’t inhale. Republicans came back with tea, groping, and 3 exwives. To get your name out there, do something absurd. It’s the only way to get press, broadcast, and Internet attention. Millenials vote a name they recognize from gossip and tabloids. Doesn’t matter about policy. A Democrat could win if he’s known for cooking meth and pimping.

Are the present political parties obsolete? Could they be replaced with Sinaloa, Los Zetas, or United Russia (Putins party). Elections would be facilitated by gunning down or poisoning opponents.

Bruce Danielson should be running the Democrat Party. What he said is spot on.
