Just another Mayoral candidate pool

You would think with a SD Supreme Court ruling about open records and a convoluted siding settlement that doesn’t add up, that at least more than ONE of the mayoral candidates for mayor would make a formal statement about it.

In all fairness, Kenny Anderson has answered a few questions about what he knew at the time of the settlement.

Jamison went on to use transparency as an opener to his campaign announcement.

You would think with all the talk by many of the candidates about working with the future council and transparency at least more than one of them would release a statement. At least saying they have read it and are reviewing it.

And the current council isn’t much better. Besides Starr and Stehly, the rest of the council has been virtually silent (we may be hearing more from Erickson today on Lalley’s show). Erpenbach even WARNED the other councilors on Tuesday during the informational NOT TO TALK ABOUT IT. Rolfing and Kiley have been out of town since this all unfolded and have said NOTHING. Ironically it was Rolfing who brought the warped siding to the attention of the public and Kiley is our current council chair.

9 Thoughts on “UPDATE: Why are the Sioux Falls mayoral candidates mysteriously quiet about the siding settlement?

  1. That’s a very good question. Maybe they do not want to commit to the 3 to 4 million dollars that it will take to correct this matter, or the protracted lawsuit which could ensue if they go after the contractors of the EC. Or, are most of the candidates buddies of the contracting world and they don’t want to fluff the contractors’ feathers, or don’t want to burn bridges with them should they become the next mayor?….

This should be a big issue and the lack of discussion by the candidates speaks to the lack of sophistication in our local political process, or else it demonstrates how the process is owned and controlled by a few…… No wonder “blight” is whatever they want it to be…….And bland seems to be the reality of this mayoral race so far…..

  2. “fluff?” ruffle!….. However, they are probably use to “fluffing” the feathers of the contractors… 😉 …. (I think I’ll take this load bearing wall out, heck, the last failed inspection at Pave doesn’t scare me…..)

  3. For several years Jolene produced and hosted the citylink program ‘City Scene’. I wonder what she got compensated to do that. She also says she wants to work on workforce development and has dozens of employees in a 6 state area for her dog manure cleanup business. Does she pay them a living wage? Are they independent contractors?

  4. Erpinbitch warned other not to talk about it. Thats fucking disgusting.

  5. Workforce development?…. Whatever happen to on-the- job training? Why do conservative businessmen need a government program to help sustain their businesses? Did the state of Michigan or the city of Detroit help Henry Ford with workforce development so that his workers could be properly trained for his assembly lines?….I don’t think so…No Medicaid for the working poor, but we better steer government resources as a hand-out to the business community, however…..Wow!….. Whose country is this anyway?

  6. it’s kind of funny when the same republicans who cut funding to schools and gutted the industrial arts programs are now the ones saying we need to train kids for industrial jobs.

  8. Scott, that is why we need to turn the New Technology High School into a conventional Jefferson High School (the fourth HS). And the sooner the better before the Board uses the NTHS as a fast track to their workforce development dreams….

I don’t suppose candidates will address how Strong Mayor Charter has gone wrong. If you’re running for mayor, you also want the dictatorship.
