I guess I saw this coming a mile away, I figured it would be a 3-5 vote (Stehly, Starr and Neitzert voted NO) or a 4-4 with mayoral tie-breaker.

A couple of things tonight I noticed that the public might have missed;

• Erpenbach flip-flopped her intentions. I figured she would, she has a record of doing so. Last week people praised her for standing up to the contract but I warned them to be careful. I’m sure she weighed her options and realized if she voted NO she wouldn’t win anyway and didn’t want to be in the bad kid’s club. It’s all about appearance for Erp, always has been.

• Kiley and other councilors who voted yes tried to make it about an attack on the RFP process. Not at all. It was stated loud and clear by those who opposed this it was about this ‘particular’ RFP. They didn’t get enough time to review the contract, the other proposals were secret, they changed the terms from lease to management with out council pre-approval and a last minute equipment deal was taking place. The RFP process does work for many city contracts, in this case it did not because it was poorly executed. But that didn’t stop the rubber stampers from trying to kill the messenger in their justifications.

As I said during public input tonight; Secret, Secret, Secret, RAMROD! The dictator in the corner office wins again.

7 Thoughts on “UPDATE: (New Video) Sioux Falls City Council approves golf contract

    What was expected. Now we’re sure Kiley and Erickson will not be re-elected. Within the city judicial ordinance is a trick. The city doesn’t have to pay for a contract and can’t be sued. The next mayor can easily not pay LU and restore DG.

  2. I have to wonder Mr. Spin why you would suggest the city shoots itself in the foot by not following through on a contract even if that is possible. You seem to live in a fantasy world.

  3. I am increasingly more interested in the personal gains of Mr. Turbak than the mayor and council.

    It’s clearer the mayor is just the seat holder and the money man is really in charge.

    I have watched turbak and his spin in person on several occasions while in attendance on Tuesday nights. You can bet with certainty he will say “the proof is in the pudding.”

    He is right. The proof will be in the pudding, only problem is, his recipe is flawed. There is one significant ingredient he is completely leaving out. He has forgotten to recognize the hundreds of golfers who will desert Landscapes Unlimited, and opt instead for golf experience Tom Walsh and his group offer.

    Soon the villains on the council and the mayor will be gone. The first matter of business for the new mayor will be to fire the Finance and Parks Directors. There are other golf courses. Larchwood is getting popular. If the city loses revenue, there’s less waste on private indoor tennis.

  6. You would think that we do not have a wage problem in this town, an affordable housing crisis, nor a crime wave given everyones’ attention to the hobby of golf….

    What seems apparent about contracts is that the council is kept out of the loop and misinformed yet are expected to vote. I think ‘Walter’ Rolfing introducing his family near the end of the meeting was inappropriate. They are visitors who hardly matter. It’s amazing how citizens are cut off during Public Comment yet there’s time to introduce your guests from out of town.
