So someone told me today they were attending the college Republicans meeting the other day (members from USF and Augie) and one of the speakers said that TenHaken was looking for ‘volunteers’ to knock on doors, and BTW he will pay them $10 an hour.

If this is true (I haven’t had secondary confirmation) they are NOT volunteers and 1099’s have to be provided by law.

I encourage anyone who engages these so called volunteers to ask them if they are getting paid if they knock on your door.

I guess Paul has ditched the ‘DSU’ team and went after the ‘USF’ team.

20 Thoughts on “Is Sioux Falls Mayoral candidate Paul TenHaken paying volunteers to knock on doors?

  1. i believe they are called “Leadership teams.”

  2. If you’re going to make a wild accusation like that, you should probably present some proof or evidence.

Liberals must be super afraid of TenHaken. They keep looking for something to accuse him of impropriety on and have so far come up with nothing of substance.

Paul is a great guy with proven leadership abilities that cares deeply about our community. He has a vision for our city (read his 2026 plan) and would be a great face for the city of Sioux Falls. That’s why I’m voting for him. None of these ongoing wild and undocumented accusations (I’m sure there’s more to come) will change that.

MP – I friend of mine who attended the meeting told me that a person called ‘TJ’ offered volunteers to get paid. I know it is one source, but reliable. Whether it is true or not doesn’t matter, because it isn’t illegal. Paul can pay whoever he wants to help. It’s no different then paying a printer to print a postcard. My point is if he is doing this, he must provide 1099’s as independent contractors.

Why not have TenHaken on for a quick video or podcast interview rather than tossing around stuff?

MP – there is no substantial objection to TenHaken. Notice that nothing is about policy, vision, skills, etc. This blog is supporting Jamison who is just as much in the GOP as TenHaken. TenHaken gives Trunp a B and this blog freaks out.

I like fiscally conservative candidates in city government, that’s why I support Brekke, Bardon and Jamison. But I also like progressive thinkers like Weiland.

Paul is a Hack. He isn’t going to change when he walks into City Hall. I hope we learned our lesson from Huether. I don’t need a mayor that wants to f’cking sell me something, I want a mayor who will save me money while providing a high level of services.

    In all honesty,
Why do you think Jamison will be more fiscally conservative? I don’t see the evidence or ability to do that. He has offered no thoughts on how he will be fiscally conservative that I have seen. The plan on the postcard shown a couple posts ago requires a large amount of spending. It’s not possible without cuts and he offers none of those.

  7. What?…. TenHaken gave Trump a “B?” (jk)

I might also add that all of the candidates for mayor have a plan and they all love Sioux Falls, that is nothing (burger) unique.

But when Matthew said, “and would be a great face for the city of Sioux Falls,” in reference to TenHaken, I think he nailed it. That’s the whole point, just an other pretty face, a rock star, or Senator Thune’s matching book end. A candidate that at the end of the day will be nothing (burger) but an articulate and pretty spokesman for the 1%. And it is time, that South Dakotans, whether they live in Sioux Falls or Harding County, wake up and stop producing or trying to produce such political commodities that do nothing (burger) to truly enhance the lives of most South Dakotan who live from paycheck to paycheck….

  8. Just to clarify terminology, College Republicans are Republicans in a college or university who choose to join a campus-based organization. Young Republicans are any Republican adults under a certain age (used to be 45, then 40; not sure what it is now) who choose to join a local YR club/organization.

  9. I forgot, was “Alex Keaton” a CR or a YR?…. And weren’t members of the Gestapo and the SS both Nazis?….. Just seeking some clarification here is all…..

Only if they are paid $600 or more is it required. So your point is most likely moot. Bring on the next conspiracy.

MP- How much is PTH paying you to be his little Troll all over the SF Internets?

The TenHaken campaign resembles Scientology. Just watch, Travolta will show up endorsing him.

  13. “l3wis” – Nothing at all. I’ve donated to his campaign, have endorsed him and believe in his candidacy. I’ve known Paul ten years and think he’s a great guy and would be a great mayor. That’s it.

Now, how much is the South Dakota Democratic Party paying you to smear TenHaken over non-stories like this one?

Also, you don’t need to do a 1099 unless you pay $600.00 to a contractor in a year. I doubt students are going to hit that milestone by campaigning for Paul on one or two saturdays.

  14. Taxslayer,

Good point, but if you are the “true candidate of the millennials,” why do you have to pay them to work for you?

Oh, and since when is a statement of law, right or wrong, a conspiracy?

  15. l3wis on March 26, 2018 at 2:02 pm said:

MP- You are correct, it must be over $600, my apologies.

Thanks for confirming though he is paying volunteers.

  16. TDS, I hope Tom Cruise shows up too and starts jumping on couches in support of ThuneHaken.

When is the election and are there any official polls for Mayor?

Is Mr. TenBaken the leader in the race so far?

Are the knothead peasants of Sioux Falls allowed to vote?

l3wis, I’ve been asked to go door knocking for Paul and haven’t been offered any compensation. Sounds like another “nothing burger”.

But those above are correct – if you’re paying them less than $600 you don’t have to W-2 or 1099 them. I’ve hired day labor in the past and paid the laborer directly without W-2 or 1099, so I’m fairly familiar with the laws regarding this.

  19. Lot’s of Reddit users will be voting in the municipal election. NOT

You don’t leave the house much if you think Reddit is a good place to push-poll for a local candidate.

Here’s some advice for you paid Tanhaken nerds, don’t quite your day job until he’s elected.

  20. Well, you heard it here first. ThuneHaken supporters like to hire day laborers so they can get around W-2s and 1099s… Your Honor, once again, I have no further comment and I rest my case….
