What a clever name, I wonder where they got such an idea? It’s not like we have a hotel a block away called ‘City Centre’ or a Laundromat and car wash called ‘City Center’ at 6th and Minnesota.

16 Thoughts on “Ribbon Cutting of ‘City Center’ Laundromat, uh, I mean, Admin building

  1. Perhaps, the ‘Romantix Annex?’

However, I wish they had spelled ‘Center’ with a ‘tre’ instead to give it an European distinction….

Or, how about ‘Restroom Centre’ for the future drunks at the newly restored Van Eps Park?

I thought for sure they would call it the ‘Veto Center’

  3. Is Romantix staying?
Will the City put up a huge sign to block the Romantix sign?
    Should’ve put this further south.

  4. I just hope this building lasts longer than the event center before it needs $1 million in repairs.

At least we got that $1 million back. Oh wait, never mind.

  5. Eventually, Romantix is bound to pull out……

Now, it is my understanding also, that we just had a ribbon cutting for a new building in early May that won’t be open until late June, right?….. Then maybe we should just go ahead and have a ribbon cutting for the new “High Speed Train” track and depot out by Brandon, too…. Because it is just a matter of time, right? In fact, “I Hear the Train a Comin’ “….

  6. “Romantix is bound to pull out…”
    That’s punny.

  7. It was intendered, I mean intended. You are talking about the “bound,” right?…… 😉

Yeah figured you would show up here when you heard they were serving free food. Did you have time to finish it before you started criticizing the place?

Canadian, how did I know you would rear your head. Funny part is that the caterer was Rollin Pin, and I’m guessing he wasn’t working for free. So my guess is the food was either paid for by the city (me) or the Chamber who receives money from the city (me) so really, it wasn’t FREE food. But nice try.

  10. Is it just me, or do others smell some Canadian bacon being fried, too?

The new admin building will be less than half occupied. There was the neighboring mostly unoccupied 300 building with more space that could have been leased for half over 20 years. More waste, more corruption, more Huether!

  13. VOTE IT DOWN! Oh yea, that was tried.
BUY A BUILDING! Oh yea that was tried.
STOP THE FUNDING! Oh yea, that was tried.
GET 6400 PEOPLE TO SIGN UP FOR AN ELECTION! Oh yea, that was tried.
OVERRIDE The VETO! Oh yea, that was tried.

Let’s have a party to retell the lies and cut a ribbon for the new City Center Romantix Annex Administration Building!

Well it happened on May 10, 2018 to salty ham sandwiches and potato chips and questionably accurate speeches by soon to be gone Mayor Mike Huether.

  14. They should place a historic marker there in front of the “Centre” to immortalize the once Studio One, Pomp Room Bar, and Romantix lane.

Prior to that era, we were once known to be the “Divorce Capital” of the nation, so its only fair that we remember our history: Where we have been and where we are going… (Well, it looks like Romantix for now)……

For years several people have been trying to get the parking ramp there renamed to ‘The Pomp Ramp’.

  16. I wonder if the neon Pomp Room Bar sign is still out at the Pawn Hall or Concert shop, or whatever it was called…?
