That’s the hilarity of the uproar about the rainbow buffalo. While as adults we understand the pride symbolism, I don’t think a 3 year old gets it, they just see a pretty buffalo. And if they ask, it would be a great opportunity for a parent to explain the symbolism. Not just about pride, but the native signifigance of the buffalo.

I think this parent said it best with a FB comment;

Mike Henriksen

June 22 at 8:10 PM

So, the lady who directs the Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls crafted a buffalo with rainbow colors for Pride week. A Mom complained, saying it was promoting homosexuality to her 3 year old child. The Mom called the Governor’s office. The buffalo was taken down. I don’t want to tell anyone how to spend their outrage. But I would think having a 3 year old in one of 6 states that does not fund pre-school education would spark a call to the Governor’s office. I would think that having a 3 year old in a state that has one of the highest rates of child and teen deaths in the country might inspire a call to the Governor’s office. I think having a 3 year old in a state that spends less money educating each student than almost every other state in the country might want to make you pick up the phone to the Governor’s office. I think having a 3 year old in a state with one of the highest teen suicide rates in the country might make your fingers do the walking to the Governor’s office. But she decided to call about a pretty buffalo. Something that was meant to promote inclusion. It seems strange to me how some people choose to fight harder for or against symbols than they fight for or against actual human beings.

30 Thoughts on “Like a 3 Year Old relates rainbows with homosexuality

Next thing, LBGT buffalos will need separate bathrooms.

  2. Let me guess, this mother, who contacted the Governor’s office, probably also went camping with her family over the Father’s Day weekend instead of going to the the Pride Festival, too.

  3. You reap what you sow. The person who created this buffalo supported Tenhaken for mayor, who does not support Pride. A different mayor could have stepped in to demand the buffalo stay put. Supporting people who “tolerate” — at best — instead of accept will always lead to tremendous disappointment. I have zero sympathy here.

I thought you libs (progressives)were big on choice- we do not have to choose to attend pride festivals; we can choose to go camping; I thought that was what the outdoor campus was about- enjoying the outdoors where there are no rainbow colored (pretty) bison

I have read several articles from different sites addressing this problem. This is most likely the reason the mother called the Governor’s office. Leftist groups are trying to change our society and a great societal divide is quickly deepening and becoming highly inflammatory.

This leftist push which is beyond acceptance and factual science, is also creating more division in society by frightening concerned parents to remove many of the brighter students from sinking schools.

Mother Bears are ferocious in nature and in humans, as it is the females hormones going through the body to protect the child at all costs.

  6. Matt, and elected official should “choose” to reach out to all… And not have a closed mind, which is like constantly staying indoors.

As a Leftist, I don’t think we have a ‘homosexual’ agenda, we do however have a ‘equality’ agenda. Thousands of studies have been done for over 60 years by reputable doctors and scientists, the conclusion; homosexual tendencies are genetic. Are there people out there that choose to participate in different sex acts? Sure. But my guess is that over 99% of homosexuals you will meet were born that way. This isn’t some conspiracy, because if it was, it was cooked up by our creator. One of the main reasons there are PRIDE festivals is to educate the public that it is OK to be different, and NOT hide in the closet anymore, which usually leads to depression, addiction and sometimes suicide. I want all Americans to be healthy, no matter their sexual preference, we are a country that should embrace everyone, and that’s not a leftist ideal, that’s an American Ideal.

Mother bear..the best thing we can do is teach kids to be kind, to extend compassion to others even if they aren’t “what we want them to be”. Despite your horribly ignorant post, I will continue to think and hope for the best for people. Hope you reap what you have sown.

Also, if you think a rainbow work of art is a problem, you might need to take a wider perspective on ways that we can improve as a society

No, it is not just about acceptance and kindness. I worked for many years with a wonderful, respected, kind person whom I liked very much. That person’s choice of partners was of no concern to me, nor was it pushed in the face of children and society as is what is happening in today’s society.

Below is a portion of an article regarding soon to be released children’s indoctrination entertainment.

Children’s Cartoon ‘Drag Tots’ To Feature ‘Baby Drag Queens’

Still think children’s cartoons are innocent, harmless entertainment? Think again. In the summer of 2018, there are not one but two new animated series that openly promote the drag queen lifestyle to children. Both aimed at young children, they represent another tactic of gender radicals who are increasingly focusing their propaganda efforts on the youngest, most vulnerable members of society.

The animated series “Drag Tots!” features simplistically drawn toddlers who are, somehow, already living as drag queens as they explore facets of the drag queen lifestyle. They do this with the help of a cartoon unicorn voiced by transgender celebrity RuPaul.

The series is set to air on June 28th, but early reports mention an episode focused on a visit to a wig factory and another to an ‘alternate drag universe’ in which men dress like women. These “drag queen themed adventures” are placed in an educational context for the viewers along the lines of The Magic School Bus children’s book and cartoon series with the tagline, “School has never been so fierce!” as an obvious attempt to indoctrinate children to believe that the drag queen life style is both common and normal.

The show features several prominent drag queens as the voices of the characters and the trailer ends with a chorus of children merrily singing the new jingle, “Drag, drag, drag, drag, drag tots! Yeah!” that just rolls off the tongue.

A generation ago, educational cartoons taught children about science, history and geography but now these academic subjects are being pushed out by gender-radical propaganda intended to program susceptible young minds to embrace postmodern concepts of gender fluidity. Talk about child abuse!

The second animated series, “Super Drags” was previewed with the first promotional trailers on May 31st and is set to debut on Netflix sometime in the next few months. The show has a look and theme similar to the popular Power Puff Girls but with the one caveat, that the young cartoon super heroes are all drag queens.

The tagline of this show reads, “By night, they tighten up their corsets and transform into the baddest super drags in town, ready to combat shade and rescue the world’s glitter from the evil villains. Get ready, because the Super Drags are going deeper than you think.” We will leave to the discerning reader to decipher any possible double entendre to be found in the fact that these super drag heroes are “going deeper than you think.”

The person who created the Buffalo was a very dedicated state employee, but NOT an elected official. I can tell you as someone who has known this person for over 20 years, they don’t have a mean bone in their body, they love children, and love their job, and are very good at it. Their intention would have never been to create some kind of controversy, but as I told someone the other day in their defense, The Right Wingers ruin everything.

And that is to my greater point, turn on any talk radio station in this town and all you will hear is right wingers spewing hate about the left. In fact our state government has been run by these corn balls for over 40 years, yet all of sudden the ‘leftists’ are taking over in SD. Give me a break! The ‘leftists’ have a very long, long, long, way to go before they even can get a 40% approval rating in this state. So all this blathering about ‘fake news’ from the left, I’m still waiting to hear it. Admit it, you are in charge in SD and will be for a very long time. Let the progressives, liberals, leftists, feminists and homos have a least a couple days a year where we can speak our minds without listening to the Rights threats of a hostile takeover.

  16. Matt,

That wasn’t my inference. I was merely suggesting that ‘A Mother bear’ was defending the actions of our Mayor and or should be more concerned about our Mayor’s actions relative to the Pride Festival.

  21. Actually, there is a Judge in Lake County, who I believe just recently retired, who called bloggers journalists a few years ago during a court proceeding; and isn’t any comment on social media a blog or a part of the journalistic story?

The late David Kranz use to have a column in the Argus that passed along political tidbits, maybe even rumors at times, but he was definitely a journalist; and if journalists can be given that license, then why not a blogger? Whether they comment to the world wide web or instigate a decision as a blog site owner?

  29. Matt,

Have I struck a nerve? You are not even making sense.

But for your pro-life analogy, well, you are right that Democrats, or most, would not attend a pro-life rally, but they would also admit why they are not attending, which would be, because they don’t support the pro-life position. Such Democrats would not hide from the issue by claiming they are going camping instead…
