When you break down the numbers, that is well over 2,000 overtime parking tickets a month (people who are parked in an expired meter spot)

According to the city, in May they issued $23,881 in overtime parking tickets and $4,964 in prohibited parking tickets (parking in a loading zone, for example).

The city’s parking division is going to need all the money they can get now that they will be paying a bond on a parking ramp that has NO leased tenants, and probably won’t for several years.

They have no way to collect. It’s not a crime nor a moving violation. The city judicial ordinance doesn’t allow for appeals or for the city to sue. Not knowing, most pay the tickets. Most lawyers collect them. I wish they were soft paper for when you’re in a city portapotty at the Levitt without toilet paper.

  2. Sounds like a self imposed tax on the wealthy.

I think these fines are an abuse of govt power. Parking on public streets should not be a finable offense, tax payer money built and maintains those streets. Parking tickets of any kind (minus handicapped and fire zone) should be abolished. Disgusting.
