At Tuesday’s meeting a resolution will be proposed to help with storm cleanup. Many residents throughout the city have been reaching out to councilors about picking up branches from private property ‘IF’ left in the boulevard by the curb like they did with the ice storm.

Even though the RS5 normally votes against these things, I have a feeling this will get the support of all 8 councilors. I would go even one step forward and guess PTH made have a change of heart over the weekend and implement this himself on Monday or before.

The rumor is that the administration is calling this a ‘HANDOUT’ instead of a handup. I guess filling potholes, building streets, clean water and educating little Johnny is a ‘HANDOUT’ to. Cleaning up after natural disasters is a duty of our government, this is what we pay taxes for.

“Hand-out?” What the fuck is the $1.5 million for the State Theatre? What the fuck is the $27 million in Federal funds for the failed railroad development area?
And how about 6 of the 20 million dollars for the Bunker Ramp, that was spent by the city in extra fortified construction for a “Bridge to Nowhere” hotel/”Bunker Ramp” development plan for the private sector?
    …..#HandoutMyAss…..

  2. 1.5 million to the state theater isn’t a handout?

  3. This is a great thing for those affected by the tornadoes. The Mayor should have already enacted this and not be quibbling about what to pick up, depending on what side of the sidewalk the debris is on. Even though this should pass 8 – 0, I suspect there will be at least one Councilor that will say they weren’t notified of it since it is being brought forward on a Friday.

  4. Huge Political Mis-step by Ten Haken.

Decisions like this are remembered at election time!

When I go to vote, this is the visual I will remember:

To get the attention of the smug elites, land a good point AND register your incredulity, sometimes you just have to lob some f-bombs. Kudos, taupester.

  6. PTH’s comments in this story are hilarious and troublesome at the same time. ‘Branches don’t kill people, people kill people’

    Thanks Blasphemo,

I normally do not swear at all on this site, but when I saw those four GOP “Eddie Bauer” politiical leaders holding a presser in front of the auto parts store that took a direct hit, that got my blood burning. I mean, how dare they? Their politics is causing not only my blood to burn, but our planet to burn overtime with their politics of denial about climate change.

I went along 41st today. Lots of retail damage. Best Buy was closed. Others might not reopen. I wouldn’t call it a handout if the city helps get things open. Think of how much sales tax is lost.
This reminds me of New Orleans. City personnel left town. The mayor was jailed for federal funds fraud.
We, the people, realize you make yourselves rich from awarding inflated contracts to your buddys. Put your corruption aside for awhile and fix this. We’ll look the other way again once you do this little something for the public.

“In a tornado event, once it rips everything down, it’s just laying around,” he said, adding that a downed tree in someone’s yard doesn’t pose a life-safety risk.

    YGBSM.

How about a downed tree on power lines? Has he ever limbed a fallen tree? Does he have any idea what can happen if you cut the “wrong” limb off something (heavy) that is “just laying around”? He makes this shit up as he goes. If this was an EF3 and trees were picked up and dropped in from a city park, whose job is it then?

This from the guy who “owned” the sirens’ inactivation.

Have heard many comments on this. Not setting well. My response? You going to draw a line like that, good luck getting me to mow your damn boulevard.

I hesitate to share this for fear of getting someone in trouble.
Clean up crews worked through my neighborhood late in the afternoon. They cleared all the tree limbs and branches which were gathered along the curb. There was no accounting for origin of the stuff.
Several in the neighborhood had trees located within Cotter’s Forbidden Zone and which were damaged during the storm (one of the twisters toured through the block on which I livevv damage was spotty, but severe). Those in the neighborhood had carried everything from these trees to the curb, if for no other reason than it would be conveniently staged for disposal whenever and by whomever. The block is now clear of tree refuse.
The practice is not that which has been outlined (thankfully).
The crews and contractors hired by the City qapparently know that which is the true snd right thing to do. And they just do that work which is front of them. Meanwhile the Mayor and bureaucrats twist and spin on their words, trying to rationalize an alligator-armmed approach to resourcing a recovery and clean-up effort.
It’s a pretty foolish politician who takes a bullet in the form of a completely unecessary stand on an issue, innit?

Tuesday’s Council meeting might be worth showing up for in person.

They are going to vote FOR a property tax increase AT THE SAME TIME they are explaining why the sirens did NOT warn the public of a life-threatening emergency AND why they can only help with the TORNADO’S aftermath if it’s on the public side of the RED LINE!

If we would have known better, or would have been forewarned, we could have all headed for the Bunker Ramp.
